SUMMARYThese 10-piece bags of Ø ½″ bearing balls are OK… but only if you know how to cut through the seller’s false claims. The seller undoubtedly knows full well that the 52100-alloy isn’t stainless; they are counting on the ignorance of buyers, who may well truly need stainless bearing balls for their applications. DETAILS👎 Does the supplier have good quality control? No. One of the ten balls in my 10-piece bag was a wild outlier. It was bigger than 12 mm ball (0.47244) and smaller than 0.5000; I don’t know what it was supposed to be. It was a clear miss-sort (or defect) and I threw it away. 👍 Are they compliant with G25 specs? Probably. I don’t own the highly precise measuring instruments required to confirm whether or not these are truly G25-grade, which requires that all the balls within a lot (a 10-piece bag) have the same diameter to within 0.00005 inch). But to the best of my ability with my micrometer, nine of the ten good balls met the G25 specs as I could detect no ball-to-ball variation. See photo. 👎👎 Are they “stainless” steel? No… and no. Whether these are stainless or not is important because virtually no Amazon customer buying bearing balls here on this page is machining, grinding, and lapping bearing races where durable, wear-resistant, 52100 bearing balls (and proper bearing grease) are required. Far more likely is they DO need corrosion resistance due to the environment and operating conditions. The seller is counting on most customers not knowing what “52100” means, but it is THE alloy that makes highly durable, wear-resistant bearing balls for heavy-duty bearing applications. However, 52100 is by no means stainless (resistant to rusting without being bathed in bearing grease). ” The 52100 alloy has only 1.3–1.6% chromium. No steel alloy can be regarded as stainless unless it contains at least 10.5% chromium; that’s where the “18-8” stainless alloy gets its name (304 is an 18-8 alloy): it contains 18% chromium, which makes it very rust resistant and suitable for making flatware (forks and spoons). As a magnet is strongly attracted to the bearing balls I received, they are undoubtedly 52100, which makes them suitable for use in heavy-duty bearing applications. However, if you have an application where you need corrosion resistance, such as exposure to the elements, then you should look elsewhere here on Amazon for bearing balls made of 304 stainless, which is an “18-8” alloy that won’t rust… and you can confirm that because a magnet will only very weakly—if at all—be attracted to 304.

I'd leave a 1 star because for my purposes they did not work. It's intended use is for lubed bearing application. I instead wanted to use these for the Hario coffee immersion drip, they rusted after a few days.
