I stumbled upon this Makita to 12v battery adapter and had to give it a try. I was a bit skeptical about how it would work, but I decided to test it out. We’ve all seen those lithium-ion emergency starter packs and portable compressors on the market these days. How would this little gadget compare to them? Well, I had the perfect thing to test it on - my lawn tractor that I had forgotten to plug the maintenance charger back in when I cut the grass earlier this year. So, I followed the instructions and grabbed a fully charged Makita 18V tool battery. Before hooking up the adapter, I tried starting the lawn tractor. It clicked and tried to turn over, but there wasn’t enough power. I plugged the Makita battery into the adapter and made sure the green light came on. Then, I used the battery clamps to clip it to the tractor’s battery. The green light was flashing, so I knew it was charging. I took a break for a few minutes and when I came back, the green light was on. I tried starting the little tractor again, and it took a couple of tries to prime the system, but it eventually started. I was surprised that a small device like this could handle starting with a dead battery. In summary, the device worked for me on a small lead-acid battery. I think it might also work on a small car battery, but I’m not sure about my diesel tractor with a low or dead battery. Either way, it’s now a device I’ll keep in my tool chest to use when I run into small problems. I highly recommend it!

Worked perfect for our riding mower which was sitting outside covered all winter. The battery didn't have enough juice to start it, and after trying for 5 minutes it would not turn over any longer, just "click click click". I used an aftermarket Makita compatible battery to power this, hooked up both cables to the battery terminals and tried starting it. It did turn over, but wouldn't start right away after trying about three times. I let it sit for around 10 minutes, came back and it started right up! Again, I used an aftermarket battery and it still worked great. The cables are a little short, but fairly thick gauge and the clamps are good qquality. Highly recommended.

I absolutely love the idea that my Makita tool batteries can be used for jump starting a vehicle with this adapter. I haven't yet had a situation where I could test this adapter on a depleted 12V car battery. If it works as specified to start the vehicle, I will be extremely pleased. The adapter appears to be well constructed, with solid materials. A genuine Makita 18V tool battery snaps correctly into the adapter, which then displays a green light to indicate charge status. The adapter color is a great match for Makita's signature blue-green tool color. The clamps for attaching to a 12V car battery work well. The wiring to the battery clamps is stated to be 11AWG, which is somewhat smaller than the gauge used on robust jumper cables. However, the length is considerably shorter than jumper cables so hopefully this will not be an issue. This adapter, even with a Makita battery, is much smaller and easier to store in the vehicle than a set of jumper cables. A very small paper instruction sheet is provided in the box and instructions are printed on the adapter body. So far, I am quite pleased with this item. But, I can't be sure of it's functionality until I am able to use it to attempt to start a vehicle with a depleted battery.
