It basically worked straight out of the box. I did need to get a 9vdc power pack for it as I was not sure if it had batteries or a USB connection. Boss make a quality product and this one seems to have plenty of scope. It seems to be quite robust mechanically .

Utile pour certains style de musique mais pas pour tout

This unit creates some lush and full vocoder sounds. The sound can be tweaked with great effect by the tone and colour controls. There is also an fx loop so extra delay and reverb etc could be added for that ‘I’m Not In Love’ sound presumably.I found the unit coped well with complex and full chords better than the TC Helicon Talkbox Synth. To get the best out of this unit and is actually a necessity of using live, I found it important to reroute the vocoder direct to a PA and not into my guitar amp. This is for 2 reasons:1) feedback- having a guitar amp behind you and a microphone in front of you picking up your amp leads to unpleasant digital squeals.2) sound quality - the most crisp digital sounds come from a flat response PA. Most guitar set ups equalise out many of the high-end frequencies. The voice box function isn’t as good as a real voice box ie the one with the plastic tube but it’s passable. There is an additional choir effect which I can’t see myself using. (When you have heard the choir effect from a Strymon Big Sky reverb, nothing else will do.)To reroute the guitar signal was a bit of a faff. I had to use an A/B -Y pedal. So normally the Guitar signal would exit out path A but when I press the switch I send the Guitar signal via B through the vocoder and then direct to the PA. I actually routed it through an Active DI box for additional tone shaping and so I could use a balanced XLR connection. The A/B switch is quite cheap (I used a Fender micro pedal).
