Let me first say that this item is just fine as is. However, in my case (a longer chain which I can't shorten), this tensioner in stock form pulled the chain off the bottom of the cog , causing occasional skipping. What I really needed was to instead push the chain up.My solution was to remove the tensioner spring, and use the original screw with a couple washers, allowing me to clamp the tensioner in whatever position I need. Works perfect, I'm very happy with it!

This product looked the best of the options out there for chain tensioners. I was a bit curious how this was to be installed, looking at my bike. Recently converting a multi-speed to a single speed. In the process I threw out all my rear derailleur parts. When it arrived, I realized I needed the derailleur hanger for this to be compatible for my Trek. The tensioner took up all the slack, but was a little torqued due to the little amount of take up I needed and the strong spring on the unit. I also found that with the thicker single speed chain I had on the bike, I I needed to remove the "keeper" loop on the sproket wheel.
