Pair this with a decent shop vac with a bag filter installed and your dust levels are reduced A LOT. Takes a little practice to use but very fast once you're on to it. It is tiring on ceilings but so is a pole sander. I rigged up a pocket on a strap that holds the bottom on the poll at mid chest level and it was WAY easier to use. On walls, a normal work pouch works fine. I would never go back to hand sanding after using this. I hate doing touch up now because I am not used to the dust. Oh, the sanding pads last a long time so don't overbuy like I did.

Probably fine for narrow window curtains due to less bulk when open. Our windows are wide and have curtains accordingly - shaft not long enough to hold the bulk of wide curtains. They were very nice though. Returned for a refund due to size.

I highly recommend this product. I am a DIY novice but thru need had to repair a hole 24x60 inches after removal of cupboard from my kitchen ceiling. As the rest of the ceiling was textured we decided to remove it. (See That Kilted Guy on youtube) after research we decided we needed to get a tool for the job. As budget was tight decided on the WEN 6369 variable speed sander. This item is quite heavy and long and comes with a +-15ft hose and a shoulder strap. We hooked up the vac hose to a Rigid 35L shop vacuum and fitted both a bag and pleated filter(blue) to the inside to stop dust being blown around. I recommend using a 90 or 120 grit sanding disc to start with just to get used to it and use the variable speed at lowest setting. The motor on the head for the oscillator causes it to tilt. To overcome this it is better to get close to the ceiling and hold the machine parallel to the ceiling switch it on lift and let the brushes that surround the sanding disc come into contact with the ceiling. This gives nice even pressure and stops disc chatter. Dont put too much pressure or sweep to fast as this may overwhelm the vacuum and clog up the holes. The holes may sometimes get blocked but a quick palm slap dislodges it. The weight does give your shoulders a work out but there are two "feet" attached to the end of the wand. I tried using them hooked into my tool pouch and found that it gave moderate pressure relief to the shoulders. My solution was to do 30 minutes and give it a break. Long sweeps along a path give the best results. Once we started the mudding a whole new universe exploded upon me. See That Kilted Guy again for his vids on how to mud. It took two muddings with a final spackle just get it right. After each sanding we used an LED flashlight with beam held accutely to the ceiling to see the imperfections from the sanding. This helped to see where further sanding was needed. After three days I had the technique. The discs supplied have 8 holes in the middle and I would recommend only purchasing these as they feed a lot of powder into the vacuum tube. I have not used sanding discs without holes so cannot compare. The thought of trying to do this project by hand would be daunting especially with the amount of dust that is generated. I would say we captured over 90% of the dust in the shop vacuum. After three full days of sanding the bag was full of dust but the pleated filter showed no sign of dust. So you could get away with the bag only. The WEN 6369 is a great tool and indispensible if you plan on doing drywall.

If you don't already have a shop vac, get one. Also, figure out what type of grits you need and buy extra packs of them ahead of time. Depending on the job, you may ending up going through a lot of discs. This product does exactly what it's designed for, and as for the folks saying speed and electric shocks are an issue, that is user error. Don't use the bag, use a vac and no shocks will be had. USE THE RIGHT GRIT and let the tool do the work. As it specifies in the instructions, DON'T apply extra pressure. Slow, even passes gets the job done. As for most drywall applications I cant imagine needing to go higher than the minimum speed or the "1" speed. I am very happy with the tool, beats hand sanding any day and is way faster than small finishing or orbital sanders with much less dust. And at $80, the price is on point too. See the attached photos for my basic setup, as well as the photo showing what happens to discs as the left disc is white but debris free and the right disc is striped and clotted with paint. If you're sanding a repair patch that has paint or half finished walls (eg. Paneling half drywall renovating) the discs will clot with paint and you'll go through them quickly. Don't throw them out, remove them and let them cool. The paint will become brittle and can be cracked or chipped off later to use the disc again. This product has worked excellent and I couldn't be more happy with the value. I'd reccomend to anyone.

I’ve only used this on one job. The vacuum bag it come with works good but there is dust. I attached it to my shop vac, double filter. Almost dust free. Be carful when you pull the sander away from the wall that’s when you get the majority of the dust. The sander does a great job. No more hand sanding except in the corners. The sander payed for itself on the first job. I’m ordering a second one so we can have 2 working at the same time. I would definitely recommend this.I’ve use this on a few jobs now. My only complaint is that there is a static charge build up when using it and a spark and shock.

In my former life I did drywall finishing professionally. I had access to high quality tools. The sander that we used was an all-in-one Porter Cable 9" vacuum/sanding unit. Since I no longer have that job, I also no longer have access to the tooling. This is why I ordered the WEN unit. The first thing that I noticed was that the WEN is of lighter construction. That has pros and cons. Obviously, it's easier to handle (though sanding a ceiling is never easy), but the durability of the tool was sacrificed to do this. The pole (handle) is sturdy, but the plastic around the sanding wheel that forms the vacuum chamber was of lightweight plastic. It didn't take long before this piece was cracked (see picture). Arguably, however, this doesn't affect the operation of the tool...I press on.Secondly, even hooked up to a high quality professional grade shop vac with the proper filters installed, the sanding head seems to get clogged quite often. I was never able to discern why this was, but when I started to see excess dust falling from the sanding head, I knew it was time to stop, turn the head over, and tap until the vacuum holes cleared themselves. (small side note: not sure what size the hose is...it didn't fit with anything I had. I had to tape the provided hose into my shop vac hose to make the connection...which worked fine)Thirdly, the motor placement. There are pros and cons to mounting the motor directly on the sanding head. Not having a flex drive is an advantage when it comes to having to replace rotating parts. The negative to this is that the motor is ingesting dust and ruining the motor brushes (which is why they send an extra set). The other thing that mounting the motor to the head does is change the balance. With the handle placement and design, the unit is fairly easy to handle, though still end heavy. With this extra weight at the end, I had trouble with chatter. I never could figure out if it was my technique or if this was poor design. It was easily remedied though by extending one finger from the hand that was gripping the closest handle to steady the bouncing motor.Fourthly, sanding performance. The speed control is excellent and there is an excess amount of power. This sander will turn any surface into a flat surface. That is a good characteristic for the taper (horizontal) joints, but when it comes to butt joints (vertical) and corners (which will never be completely flat, but must instead be blended into the wall) the stiffness of the sanding head prevented me from getting very close to the corner. This means that it would sand the outer edges of a corner only. Also, on a butt joint, if you weren't careful, you could sand through to the joint tape before the edges were contoured. This caused me to do some hand sanding in the corners and butt joints....but only some sanding.Summary: You get what you pay for. This unit is very usable, powerful, store-able, and convenient. Bottom line...it works. However, it does not work as well as a more expensive unit (duh). This is a perfect tool for someone who only does their own work in their home (and occasionally for family). It's not so expensive that you feel bad for not using it all the time, but quality enough that it gets the job done a heck of a lot easier than by hand when you need it.Hope it helps.
