The case has a Velcro flap. There is not a brass snap as pictured so it looks very cheap. The compass has shown 3 different directions of north when laid flat on a wood surface. The variations are large enough to cause big problems when an emergency arrives. There are much better options.

It doesnt have the feel of the "military" kind but it is accurate. No leaking fluid, straight pins, takes a bit of getting used to the view finder but its good. The only thing I didnt like was I could not put the compass down "flat" on a map due to the thumb holder, and the plastic rings dont look durable.

For the price it was excellent quality. So that said you get what you pay for.

It is made of refined steel and has a floating oil scale. It is very sensitive to the horizontal height, so small bubbles can be seen and set. There is no battery for the light. Power cord attached. Not disappointed. I use it to find traces. Well made, value for money action and design - much better than department store trash, and not having to worry about batteries like GPS.

I really like the bottom sight feature. It allows me to sight visually at a point and see the headings without trying to look down on the compass. I have used it several times to verify boundary lines on my property. I will say, that it read about two degrees off from a know reference line. ( This was after making allowance for magnetic deviation in my area of North America. ) Once I established that it was off, I simply factored that deviation into my readings. It allowed me to find a couple of old survey pins I had been looking for, without buying an expensive GPS device.
