On the description it says Morphon but the unit I received is branded VEVOR. Rest look the same. Not sure what that's about. The construction is ok. This unit is heavy, that would be fine if it were easy to handle. It is not because it is basically round and nowhere to grab from. I would not describe it as sturdy though. The outer shell, although thick, feels weak. The adjustment knob is somehow off-center, but it does not affect use. There is slight buzzing noise when the unit is turned on. Not sure if this is a good sign. I am also not sure if it can work well with a UPS.The voltmeter is basically too vague and useless. The glued indicator around the knob also is useless when your starting voltage is not 110v. If you want to precise voltage you need a multimeter. So far I only had very light use (~130w) but I hope this thing can last given its impressive weight.

No pense que lo fuera a usar tanto. Se convirtio en parte importante en mi laboratorio para proyectos de CA y como regulador de algunos sistemas.

I use this variable voltage transformer while repairing audio components. No problems with the unit and it is electrically quiet.

First off, this is a very good value for an adjustable auto-transformer of this size. I have several 'name brand' units, but need an extra for a new project, and this was too inexpensive to pass up. And it worked fine after some modifications.Initially, as others have pointed out, grounding was done poorly in the unit as shipped. This was several months ago, so perhaps the've improved things since. There was only one ground wire attached to the outside shell containing the power switch, meter and outlets and it was not properly done. No 'star' washer nor did they remove the (rather substantial) paint from under the washer before attaching. Further, there was no 'copper' ground path to the major shell surrounding the autotransformer, itself. And given the good quality of the paint barriers between the two metal housings, it was clear there wasn't a sufficient 'ground' path between them. I added an additional #12 green wire to fix this, using a 'star' washer on the main frame. Grounding problem solved. After few months of service, the unit suddenly wasn't able to turn on. I had been using it at about half it's rated load (1.2kva) of the 2kva rating, so not really running it hard. But in spite of this rather light 50% load, the power switch housing melted and freed the power pin that runs to the fuse. Dead.Fortunately, Digikey carried a near replacement (EG5597-ND) with rating to 20A 115VAC, cost $1.94 in single quantity.) Switch is from E-SWITCH and is solidly built. It did require a bit of filing of the opening in the metal shell, as the as-built switch was about .5mm smaller in each dimension. After this mod, the unit was 100% back in commission.I suggest you avoid the urge to purchase one of the similar switches on Amazon as the suppliers all seem to carry the same cheap switch as was in the unit initially. Using a non-thermosetting plastic was a bad idea because a little warmth caused the plastic to 'flow' until contact starting heating due to resistance caused by the now, poor connection. Stick with a switch that a UL label (the original unit does not.)I should also point out that when making the new switch connection, I avoided soldering wires to the switch, as that's a no-no with a 2kva appliance. Crimped spade-lug quick-connects were added to the wires and these were used to make the connection to the switch. I was tempted to do this same to the socket connectors, but saved that for 'next time.' And I *will* remove and replace the 'hot snot' hot-melt glue that used to anchor the cord and sockets to the metal shell. This isn't an automatic 'safety' issue, but it's just gross.Otherwise, this appears a very fine, inexpensive, and so far, reliable device. I may purchase another but will definitely apply these modifications before use. And hopefully the manufacturer will take these suggestions and make the necessary safety mods to their future units. "Name brand' units go for at least twice what this unit cost, so there is a bit of room to improve and still have a great price.

The transformer arrived on time and was well packaged. However.... due to the shipping company mishandling/dropping/bashing the package.... it was damaged upon delivery. There was a bashed-in dent on the side of the box which tore the cardboard and punched through the solid Styrofoam, snug fitting, packaging and into the side of the transformer. I contacted the seller the day of delivery with pictures of the damage. WITHOUT HESITATION!, the seller goes to make it right. The sellers response was prompt and professional. They offered, instead of incurring the high return shipping costs, to refund me all but 20 dollars of the purchase price and allow me to keep the damaged unit. I accepted this offer. I had to disassemble the transformer and pop out the dented housing which caused minor paint damage. The dent was so deep that the side of the housing contacted the toroidal coil inside and chipped/gouged into the insulating varnish on the copper windings. I just touched up the gouge and re-dipped the entire core in varnish after masking the bare track where the sweep brushes make contact. I also reflowed all the solder joints and applied insulating compound to each one. I added a 20 amp ceramic slow blow fuse and holder inside the front panel which protects the load/output since the unit only came with a standard fast blow 20 amp fuse on the input side of the transformer. This upgrade has already saved me multiple times! The digital voltage guage is accurate enough for most all of my needs. When I really need big power, I swap in say 50 amp fuses and this unit handles it fine for short runs! I've had this girl practically smoking with no harm done! Adding an external fan for forced air cooling is a big help when overdriving a variable. The biggest wear factor especially when over driving a unit like this is the brushes which are not only cheap and available, but easy to replace. The core itself is rather tough and can easily handle over its 20 amp rating for brief periods! Just ensure your brushes don't start glowing!! I'm VERY HAPPY WITH THIS PRODUCT AND THIS SELLER! I will buy from them again, as I already want at least 2 more of these little beauties! 5 stars.
