If you need to set a prism on a point for doing total station shots (without an assistant to hold a prism pole for you), this will do the trick. You can set it on the point, level it, and easily swivel the prism head to get your best shot at it. The design would be better, however, if it had only two adjustable "legs" instead of the three that this one has. With three adjustable legs, it is somewhat more difficult to keep the central prism point set solidly on the survey point while adjusting level with the screws on the legs. It would have been better to have two slightly longer adjustment legs and you would not find yourself lifting the prism point inadvertently off the survey point. For low precision work, perhaps this isn't important, but if you are doing high-precision surveying, you can easily introduce avoidable error.
