Got it a few days ago and have been very pleased so far both with the quality and functionality of it. Want to share a few tips that have made it easier to use.The instructions mention using a specific weight of ground coffee, so I got out a scale the first time. But after doing it once, I realized pouring grounds to a certain point in the insert is a good enough measurement. Also the suggested method of filling it with water is a little wonky. The instructions say to pour water through the grounds, which takes forever since they bubble up and out of the insert. It worked a little better to fill the carafe to the 1000 ml mark, insert the filter/coffee grounds, and then top it off to the max line through by pouring into the coffee/insert. Since the coffee is going to brew for a while, there isn't much gained by pouring all of the water through the coffee.I've let it brew for about 24 hours each time. I'd rather let it get a little stronger and water it down if needed than have it be too weak. Not sure if it makes a difference, but I'll swirl the water/coffee around in the carafe when I'm in the fridge.I wish I got the larger version. To always have some on hand, I've been pouring it into a large bottle when it's ready in order to get another batch going. There is a bit of sludge/fine grounds at the bottom when it's done, but as I pour it into a cup or other storage container, it's easy enough to stop when it gets to that point to rinse it out.

I drink cold brew becuase it is low-acid and this carafe provides a sleek way of making my own (I previously used a strainer in a pot). I do wish that it came with exact, non-metric instructions for the amount of coarsely-ground coffee to use in the immersion strainer. It does a nice job, but requires a bit of experimentation. The end result of the first steeping of the ground coffee is a concentrate that I have diluted with an equal amount of water. You can drink this cold or heat it up. The improtance of the cold aspect is that there be no heat used in the brewing process. The temperature at which you servie it is up to you.Happily, this carafe is made of materials that are ok for your health. It is not difficult to clean, but I do need to remember that when the ground coffee soaks for 24 hours it expands, and that brings the coffee right up to the top of the strainer and the grounds could spill out when removing the strainer from the carafe. That is the reason I would like precise instructions for the amount of ground coffee to use. I soaked the coffee a second time for 24 hours and got a less-strong product that was accptable to drink without adding water. And the second "brew" is lower in caffeine. Both brews are low-acid.I scatter the used grounds under acid-loving plantings in my garden. The soil here in New England is already acid, so I limit the area where I toss the grounds to spaces areound azaleas and rhodedendrons. In places whith alkaline soil you could put the grounds anywhere in the garden.

The quality of this product is really great. Its super easy to clean and it fits in the fridge with no issues.I followed the directions exactly and added 16 tablespoons of fresh course ground coffee with room temp water filled to the "Max" line. Here is where things start to get a little dicey. The cylinder in the middle when full of coffee acts similar to an ice cube it takes up space so when filling the beaker as instructed you can not get the full 5 cup (40oz) of water in the coffee maker before you hit the max line. You actually will have more like 39.25 oz As the water sits and the grounds get more saturated the water line will fall a bit and you can pour about 1/4 cup more water in to get back to the Max line. Once you pull the cylinder out the water line will drop and you can add that last 1/2 cup in if you want but I find that adding it after the fact dilutes the cold brew too much and you get less flavor. So really and truly this coffee maker will yield 39 to 39.5 ounces. Not a huge deal but in my case I actually need 40 oz because I nitronate my cold brew and under 40 oz starts to make too much foam...Not a deal breaker just something I personally have to deal with. Other than that the coffee make is very airtight. Once you have a completed cold brew you can actually shake the brew up in the beaker and not get leaks. All and all it is very solid and well worth the money. I have had no issues with it.
