I've always wanted a proper thread-chasing and repair kit, and this set has already saved my butt once!I was replacing my windshield wiper arms and stripped the threads putting the not back on one of them. The bolt is actually the shaft of the wiper motor and can't be replaced without replacing the whole wiper system! I was able to repair the threads on the bolt and get everything back together with a new nut thanks to having this on hand.As others have mentioned, the blow-molded plastic case isn't the best, but I'm very happy with it and don't plan on swinging it around much.I am worried about the hardness of the SAE tools in this kit, though. Only the metric tools seem to be hardened, which the SAE fine thread just have blueing on them and the SAE coarse don't seem to have any hardening at all. This kit is not for everyday use, but rather for rescuing ugly situations, and at that it does quite well.

I always used my tap and die set to clean threads. The problem with that is I've damaged threads more than once using the wrong tool. This thread chaser set fit the bill perfectly for cleaning up threads. I'm in the middle of a Willys truck restoration and have gotten a lot of use out of this set already.

This set is really nice for fixing dirty and damaged threads. It is not for cutting new threads. It sure saves a lot of frustration fighting dinged up threads and pays for it self in time saved.

This is a great set for cleaning thread. It's pretty comprehensive, and it's everything most of use will need, because most of the more common threads are covered. I saw a comment about them not being tapered, but this is not unusual for thread chasers. Do not confuse these with taps/dies for cutting new thread which tapering DOES help. These are for cleaning up old/damaged thread, and should not be used to cut new thread. So by not tapering, you can get the entire length of the thread cleaned up. So this is by design. My only nitpick complaint is the smaller dies fall out of position in the case when closed, if you turn it on its side or upside down. It seems to me that they could have accounted for this by making those cavities more shallow, but it's a minor point, and I didn't want to ding them for that because this is a nice set.

This kit has a good selection of thread chasing dies and taps covering NC, NF and the common metric threads. It also comes with a set of three thread files for inch and metric pitches. I do have a couple of reservations though: First, I used a spring loaded punch to check the hardness. These tools indented essentially as deeply as standard hardware store nuts and bolts, so they are not anyway near as hard as conventional taps and dies. This may not be important for occasional use but it is something to consider. Second, the taps are not tapered. In my experience with thread chasing taps, the first few threads are tapered to ease starting. The lack of a taper won't always be a problem, but in some cases it will be.
