I was given advice NOT to buy aftermarket SSD card readers and to buy the Apple product because after a while the aftermarket ones become unreliable. So far so good. There is a reason cheap stuff is cheap, they cut corners somehow.I just bought a new (2025) pricey Mac and it doesn’t make sense to cheap out now with a cheap SSD card reader. IMHO.

I use this as I'm a travelling photographer and do a lot of my work and editing on location. I have tried other cheaper alternatives, but always default back to the original Apple version. It just works. Every time.

While I didn’t time it, I was very impressed with the short time it took to flawlessly transfer more than 2000 raw photos to my ipad.
