Didn't have any of the problems mentioned in the reviews, but my chickens are too stupid to use it and rats can easily open the lid so I have to use a decently heavy brick to hold this open during the day and closed at night.

Despite the negative reviews I am very, very pleased with this feeder. Yes, I too made a few tweaks here and there, but considering the outrageous prices online, (upwards of $100 and sometimes $200), it's worth every star. I knew I was taking a chance, (per the reviews), but that was a chance we'll worth taking for sure! This feeder has kept the birds out of my duck pen and I'm so happy with that!

The feeder was relatively easy to assemble but the little wrenches they included weren't very good. I used my own tools. The reviews stated the lid would stick open but adding a little counterweight to the lid solved that and that was also true. The feeder is lightweight and easy to move around and the chickens are slowly learning to use it. The reviews also stated the machined edges were sharp and could cut. Prior to assembly I took some 80grit sandpaper and did a quick sand on the edges which solved that problem. For the money I give the feeder a thumbs up for now. I'll see now how it holds up over time.

We purchased this, and are disappointed. The metal is flimsy, and what is most concerning are the extremely sharp edges of the lid and foot stand-and I'm talking about the sides that can cut a chickens head and feet, or human hands. We didn't receive a hook that is necessary to adjust the lid during training. The whole thing is so light, even filled with feed, that it moves when chickens step on the foot stand- movement includes tipping forward which affects the lid opening height and side to side-I'm not exaggerating! I don't know if this is the standard of its fine imported quality. We have 2 of another brand, and were unable to purchase those, so we went this route. I'd try to find something else if possible. I don't know about the weatherproof yet, as we live in the desert.Update: Well it finally happened. My husbands hand was cut from the sharp edges. We have a huge problem with the lid not closing, leading to rain getting into feed, along with other critters. Lid doesn't open very high compared to another one we have. I've tried to adjust it but not luck.
