I got this defrosting plate today, and put it to work immediately on a 1-pound package of ground beef, which I hoped to use for dinner. I had owned a defrosting plate some years ago that was rather disappointing. I think that an important factor is how thick the plate itself is. When you use these, your expectations need to be reasonable: These plates basically work using passive heat transfer. That is, the cold from your frozen meat is “sucked up” into the relatively-warmer aluminum plate. This transfer is not going to happen instantly, nor even in a few minutes, usually (other reviewers’ comments notwithstanding). What it *does* do is cut down on defrost time substantially. With my ground beef, if I had laid it out on the counter to thaw, I would be (very) lucky if it has mostly thawed by dinner time without my doing something more, like dropping it in warm water. As it was, with the warming plate I put my wrapped meat package with the foam tray on the bottom meat-side down at 12:52 PM. About 20 minutes later I flipped it to the foam-tray side. After 20 min more, I could remove the tray and pull off that darned plastic soaking pad they put in meat trays off pretty easily. That fact, to me, is significant. Those pads are the last to come loose! I unwrapped the meat and ran the tray under hot water. After that, everything progressed nicely. By 3:38 the meat was pretty much totally thawed. This is not the fast results that some are talking about, but they are reasonable, in my opinion. So if you are looking for something that will thaw a brick-hard piece of meat in 2-3 hours, it works perfectly. Of course, things like thinner pieces of meat like steaks are going to thaw more quickly. I can see how this would thaw a steak easily, if unwrapped in under 2 hours.The tray is study and of good quality, and quite easy to clean. It is a good size for 1-2 pounds of meat. You are not going to thaw a huge hunk of meat quickly on it; you would need something larger for a whole chicken, for example. (Someone mentioned thawing a turkey…it must have been a very tiny turkey!) Given my results, I feel this was a very good purchase.

1 1/2 hrs total. If I had left them on the counter as I normally would they would still be partially frozen.Recommend!
