Great deal. First, both of the radios and all the accessories arrived -plus. Although not pictured or described, a pair of charging bases and wall-wart power adaptors were include (from reading the reviews I was pretty sure this would be the case) Note to the seller, I suggest you add them to the description. I will check out the programing cable later but do read other reviews and info. Apparently the CHIPS (sp?) software may not work with this cable (and maybe radios) , you can apparently download a program from Baofeng. I am a one star review reader and a number of them were complaining that some component9s0 were missing. I worried about that but in my case all was well. It is apparent that this "deal" (assortment of components) are not shipped from the factory with this collection. Somewhere in the supply line someone is taking single radios in their factory boxes and adding to them the "deal" components. That means some of the factory packing (molded forms) etc. are rearranged or removed to get the extra stuff in them. In my case one box had more components than the other but once opened and laid out on the table, it was all there. I just just imagine that late in a day (or at 3 in the morning) an order might not get all it should. I'm not complaining- I appreciate the seller and the deal he is offering. I'm very happy and looking forward to exploring these awesome pieces of technology.

This is my second set of UV5RTP radios. The first set I have no issue with, great little radios and with modded antennas and BL5 battery packs they work very well in the hills and valleys of central KY.THIS set on the other hand, well let's just start with opening the two SEALED boxes:Radio one missing the handheld mic, one of the parts trays was missing and some of the smaller stuff was simply thrown in the box.Radio two everything is as it should be all parts accounted for and properly packed.Mind you, I know what the unboxing should look like as I myself already have a set of these radios as well as a few friends and fellow hunters. On to programming. After following the suggestion of doing a factory reset and going through the menu options to align everything with my other set, I began trying to program the radios. Neither radio will transmit except on certain channels in the mid 140 range. Radio one (the problem child) will not go to wide band transmit, stays stuck on narrow band and defaults back to narrow band everytime. I have tried several times but this thing refuses. (Menu-5-Menu-Wide-Menu-Exit) Even tried the whole reset thing twice but it still refuses.Am having a HAM buddy take a look and see if it is a general programming issues on B-techs part, I don't have the software or patience to trouble shoot beyond what I have done. VERY DISAPPOINTED in this set.

I purchased this radio through Amazon and it arrived very quickly within two to three days. Great job Amazon! I charged the battery fully last night for over 5 hours before using it as the manual suggests. I changed the antenna out with a longer nagoya antenna for better transmission and reception. I had the radio on and listening for about three hours on and off. I then decided to try transmitting and ended up having over a 15 to 20 min conversation before the battery died. In my conversation I changed from the built in Microphone to another better external Mic because another ham reported that my audio was low or narrow. Changing to the external Mic improved my signal quite a bit. This is a good radio for the price. What really sold me on this radio is the tri RF power levels of 1w/4w/8w, so during my conversation I had an SWR and Watt meter connected. The wattage at High power was at most 5.2w and the mid Wattage was 4.0w and the low wattage was 2.0w this was on 70cm and 2 meters. So to me I was never able to get 8 watts of RF out. Interesting but still worked good at the max 5 watt level. Anyway I gave it three stars because they said it would put out 8 watts but I could never get that kind of output. Good lightweight radio on a budget, just make sure you have backup power for it somehow. Thanks, KF7AIR

The Baofeng UV-5RTP us a superb Handie-Talkie (HT) for such a low price. It's not fair to compare this HT with expensive high-end HTs from the Japanese name-brand leaders. Those HTs sell for 10 times the price of the Baofeng UV-5RTP!For the price here on Amazon, the Baofeng UV-5RTP is an incredible value.I'm only going to mention things that I did not like...- Stock rubber-duck antenna is very poor- Sometimes HT will make noises (like squelch breaks), but this only happens rarely- External MIC has terrible sound quality (when you talk into it and listen to yourself with another radio)- Baofeng programming software is hard to useOther than those issues, this HT is excellent.I purchased separately 2 battery-eliminators + 2 external Mag-mount antennas. Then I took both radio packages with me on a family trip to the Canadian Rockies. I installed these in our 2 rental cars.We drove through the Rockies in BC and AB, and as long as we were no more that 5-mikes apart, we would communicate easily. We used our US FCC Amateur Radio callsigns on the 146.520 simplex calling frequency. No problem.I also programmed-in 20 BC and AB repeater memories using the free CHIRP application. Sadly the provided USB cable failed to be recognized by my Windows 7 OS, but I already owned a Wouxun USB cable which worked perfectly, allowing me to easily program both HTs.I am very happy with the Baofeng UV-5RTP.

These units are great for the price and work very well. Programming can be a bit tough but there are a lot of YouTube videos and customers on here that can walk you through it. Delivery was same day via Lasership and had them in hand after only 16 hours of ordering. Way to go Amazon!! I recommend purchasing the larger battery and larger antenna. They really do boost the reception and transmission. If you do purchase the larger battery for this unit you may find that the battery doesn't snap in its seat properly. Don't force it by slamming or hitting it on the bottom to get it to lock in. Simply snug the battery into place as far as you can then take each thumb and push down on each corner of the battery where the locking button is. You will hear it snap into place and the battery will be properly seated and secure. Good Luck and enjoy Chewing the Fat on your new HAM radio.
