Got two for Christmas and liked them so much I bought two more. GMRS, VHF, weather, I thing UHF but I never use that, I use VHF and GMRS and they perform outstanding. You do have to program them manually but I't not bad if you read the instructions. The programming cord that came with one set was useless unless you can read Chinese. Outstanding value and the price is unbeatable. Buy with confidence.

Nice but should have had better instructions. Also it really needs a switch for 5 to 10 watts.

Fast delivery! For the money, these radios are hard to beat. I was able to program with both chirp and Tidradio wireless programmer. I like the fact it can be charged via USB and came with both short and long antennas. The display is sharp and clear.

The UV-5RM is a decent radio for the price. As far as features per dollar go this is easily a 5 star device. In the ham universe, Baofengs are mostly a love it or hate it thing. I have been a licensed US general class amateur for about 10 years, I like them. The AM VHF aircraft band reception is usable. This also can serve as a good low budget public service and marine band receiver. Please be sure to set the Duplex mode to ‘off’ to prevent accidental transmissions. The FM commercial broadcast band also works very well. With the free chirp software, use the ‘5RM’ setting under Baofeng radio for easy programming. You will need a programming cable.I did do a quick TX power test and achieved the following results into a dummy load; note – listed by band and H/M/L power setting.2 meter - 9.7/7.6/3.6 Watts.70 meter - 9.4/6.1/3.4MURS - 9.6/7.8/4.4GMRS – 8.6/5.6/3.2This device is not approved for MURS or GMRS operation.

I rarely do review, but made time for this product as it deserves 5-star.We needed radios for our Grand Canyon Rim to Rim hike to periodically communicate with our Friend dropping us as South Rim and picking at North. We used it at several points through the trail and were socked at its operational range and the quality of voice on both ends. The material quality is robust, battery life was excellent - still had plenty of juice after being ON for 18+ hours.I tested a popular name brand before the hike and was barely audible at 1 mile, I was spectical about these from China, but did some research on the bands and range and gave them a try, they were amazing at 5 mile testing. We took them for our hike and we're able to talk South Rim to Phanton Ranch, Cedar Point and several other points along the trail.A must have for ourdoor adventures with no cellular network. It was savior for our GC R2R Hike.
