The blade doesn't peel potatoes or carrots. They are useless

The working parts of these are kind of flimsy and are excruciatingly difficult to clean.

I just love these peelers. I purchased them primarily for the julienne peeler for when I wanted the presentation to be impressive. I knew that I would be using it only a few times a year but didn’t care. Well my expectation has been correct on how frequently I use the julienne peeler. It does do a marvelous job but it is not something that I reach for on a daily basis. The surprise is that the serrated peeler has become by go-to peeler. I use it virtually everytime I cook. The blades are really sharp and effective. I often purchased my butternut squash precut because it is so difficult to peel and prepare it. Not any longer. While it is still not like cutting butter with a hot knife, this chore is relatively benign and safe. Potatoes and other softer peels are a piece of cake.It took a little time for me to get over the muscle memory of using a traditional peeler and it did feel a little awkward for a while but gosh, all it takes is peeling butternut squash once to make you a fan. Now, I zip through my peeling chores and I love being able to make thin wide slices of veg that look like wide pasta. My only complaint is cleaning these peelers. If you don’t clean immediately, you are in for some unpleasantness. It’s not unusual to have a little bit of schmutz left behind on the serrations. If I don’t clean immediately, I know that I will have to soak for a little while and go in with a toothpick to get the schmutz. I probably don’t mind playing with the toothpicks but it really irritates my wife because generally I’m the guilty party when it comes to the cleanup.Would definitely buy again and again and again. In fact, I may get another set so that I can have a spare for when one is in the dishwasher.

OK, I will be the first to admit, I'm a kitchen gadget junkie.I have tried numerous vegetable peelers. I've had success with some, but failures with MOST. I have bought peelers from those factory outlet kitchen stores, only to be frustrated with them after the first or second use. This one however, I have to say, I am extremely pleased. My wife and I generally eat salad on a nightly basis with our dinner. She prepares a great Greek Horiatiki salad (Village salad). We use English cucumbers. This Basily peeler does an outstanding job peeling the cucumber. My wife noted that this slicer does a great job slicing the outer skin thinly. Other peelers will not only peel off the skin but also takes off part of the vegetable too. This peeler does a great job taking off only the skin. When you hold this peeler in your hand, you can feel and sense the quality construction of the peelers (two different sizes come in a package). I am confident that I will have the same experience when peeling potatoes with the larger peeler. I am very pleased with this product. Both peelers are very sharp and when peeling, be sure to peel away from you and watch your hands.PROS: Quality built, peels the outer skin in a thin layer, sharp.CONS: It isn't a con but as a word of caution, it IS sharp. Handle with care.
