X-DANTE

X-DANTE

I am very happy with this card. This allowed me to use Waves Multirack with all my Waves plugins and that made a huge difference to the quality of my mixes at church. For each computer you will need to buy a Virtual Sound Card for $30 or buy a PCI-e Card for a Desktop PC that cost about $1000 if you want extremely low latency. My current setup is with the Virtual Sound Card on two laptops. One for Waves Multirack and another one for Recording. Take into account you will need a descent switch for Dante network to work properly like the Cisco SG300-10 10-port Gigabit Managed Switch (under $200) and disable Energy-Efficient Ethernet as that technology can cause issues with Dante Network. I was able to get away with a cheaper switch for under $60, the NETGEAR ProSAFE GS108E 8-Port Gigabit Switch (GS108E-300NAS) as it was the cheaper option recommended by Waves for Multirack for a low budget but the Cisco is still a preferred switch and the one tested and recommended by Yamaha for Dante Audio. Yamaha has all the documentation on how to configure the Cisco Switch for best performance. One tip based on my experience, even when Dante documentation says it works with Auto IP Addresses I have had issues with that causing higher latency/clock issues and I had to connect and old router with DHCP enabled just to assign IP Addresses to devices in the Dante Network. Also if you don't have a MAC but a Windows laptop like me, in my case I started with Windows 7 and now Windows 10, you will have to tweak the OS to get the lowest latency possible so do your research. In my case the laptops I am using are over 3 years old so I had to do a lot of tweaking to take the latency down. Below is a useful link for that.[...]

Beats USB, but loses a half-star for the software. Dante and other ethernet sound protocols are great solutions and becoming affordable for the semi-pro markets now. This card is the X32 gateway into a Dante network, and works as advertised. I use it to record live-theater and the large channel handling at low latency is perfect for this application. Dante controller is basic software and required for configuring where audio is routed - you will need to download it from the audinate site. Dante Virtual Soundcard is also required if you want to get the audio into your computer, but it's a $30 extra purchase. I would have liked to have seen at least one copy provided based on the cost of this card.Tip: Don't forget to "turn on" DVS by pushing the virtual button! I lose some time before I realized I needed to do this and the software wasn't appearing in the controller.

This was a tough purchase to make as it is a $400 card and then if you want to use it with a computer you need the Dante Virtual Sound Card witch is $30. However after using it i feel that the X-Dante card is the one they should bundle with the x32. I started using Waves Multirack with my x32 months ago but the latency from USB or Firewire made it next to impossible to use live and only being able to send audio to one PC made me choose between tracking a show and using waves. Now with Dante I can send the Audio to as many systems as I want and best part of it the latency on ASIO is 4ms max with an avg of 1.6ms. Should you buy this? Well if you need the low latency and versatility of being able to use standard IP networks to push audio to the X32 then Yes. If you have a X-UF card and don't do anything more than tracking the 32ch from the x32 then its a maybe. It expands the X32 into a console with both AES50 and Dante you could then drop this desk into a Yamaha environment extremely easily and it does make tracking easier i would say with the only requirement that a system really needs to be able to record all 32 tracks is a good Ethernet port.
