This optical projector snoot is awesome! It works great with my Neewer LED photography light and includes loads of accessories. The controls and adjustments are intuitive and smooth. This is a great projector unit at this price point.

The light can be easily controlled and shaped with this. Very easy to get different patterns and effects. Cheaper than many of the alternatives. Quality is surprisingly good and appears to be all metal. Works fine for my purposes.

I would have to be hard pressed to imagine anyone with knowledge of the use and application of light modifiers to be unimpressed with the build and optical quality of the DFCine Optical Snoot; it’s a thoughtfully designed accessory with one exception, in my opinion. The casing is, as the seller states, all aluminum alloy, nonetheless, is a relatively heavy piece of equipment, all of which is, due the large glass lens, concentrated in front of its Bowens mount; in practice, its entire weight hangs off the light source to which it’s attached. This makes it essential to counter weight the stand or boom holding the lighting assembly. In addition, care should be taken to make sure the light source’s light stand adapter is cinched down firmly too. Due to the nature of its imbalanced weight, the light can pose a danger both to people and equipment. A better design, in my opinion, would have been to provide the snoot with its own detachable light stand adapter that centers its weight, perhaps one in which the snoot assembly sits in a rotatable ring. It's not my intent to belabor this point, but it’s the one area I feel the manufacturer could have given more thought. The snoot is heavier than most of the light sources that it’s likely going to be attached. The build quality of the Optical Snoot is excellent, allowing for plenty of creative light control. It incorporates a four-bladed aperture fully adjustable for angle, inclusion and cut-off. The front element of coated optical glass is held in a knurled focusing ring used to move it closer or farther from the light source as a means of focusing or defocusing the edges of the projected light falling on the subject matter. The two-sided gobo frame allows the user to quickly switch back and forth between two magnetically held steel gobos, of which 25, each with a unique projectable pattern, are provided. At the very front of the light is a removable ring that serves as a gel filter holder. Four color filters are provided, purple, blue, orange and green. Why those four colors? Who knows; it would have made more sense to provide primaries like red, blue and green or cyan, magenta and yellow, that could be combined to make any color. Other useful gel filters that the user could cut to size themselves might be include neutral density or color correction, depending on ones needs. Gel filtration is available as sheets. In all respects, I found the sellers description and assertions accurate. The Optical Snoot opens up innumerable avenues of creative uses, both as a light source for highlighting a subject, a part of a subject or used to project light in various shapes and sizes onto or behind a subject. All with a relatively fine level of precision. The Optical Snoot can be a main light or an ancillary light on the set. Two accessories the user will probably want to get are a hard case, since no storage is included, and a pair of heat-resistant set gloves. If the light is used with a constant light source, for example and LED light, it’ll get hot; be prepared. Heat shouldn’t be an issue if the snoot is used with a strobe light. The hard case will come in handy for protecting your investment and storing its accessories so they don’t get lost.Overall, the DFCine Optical Snoot would make for a solidly built addition to the photographers lighting arsenal, providing uniquely creative opportunities for light control and shape.

This snoot and shaper is incredible. I've tested 3 snoots recently and while they all work and come in various prices, this one is a mixture of all of the good qualities of the others while also delivering even more. The build quality on this one is outstanding for the price. The glass they have is heavy and sharp, and the controls to focus it works great. What's different about this one compared to the others I've tested is you also have four adjustable flanges you can use to shape the light with a flat edge, and it's incredibly useful since it also can adjust the cookie cutouts that come with this. The cookies they give you also comes with a convenient little carry case so it's easy to find the cookie you want. I found all of them constructed well, though some of the generic shapes and patterns are pretty cheesy. The sharpness of the light shaping is amazing, and it works great on any bowen mount light. I love that you can also just preload 2 different shapes into the device and alternate between them. While the other snoot kits weren't horrible, after testing this one I can't help but feel that this should be the standard. It works extremely well, is very easy to use, and it's a good value for what you get.
