Considerations When Choosing a Home Ventilation System:
Homes are now built much more efficiently than they once were, making them far less costly to heat and air condition. That said, having proper ventilation throughout the home is now imperative in order to provide a safe and comfortable living environment. Sones measure the 'sound level' of your fan
A sone is a measurement of sound in terms of comfortable hearing level for an average listener. The lower the sone value, the more comfortable the environment. Sones are not decibels or volume, but rather how sound is 'sensed.' One sone is half as loud as two sones, and is equivalent to a quiet refrigerator.
Calculate the air movement necessary for proper ventilation
Air movement is measured in cubic feet per minute (CFM). To determine CFM requirements, first determine the size of the room. Measure and multiply the length, width, and ceiling height of the room to determine cubic footage. Then use the multiplication factor of 0.13 and round up to the next 'ten.'
Calculation Examples:
- Example 1: Bathroom with 8-foot ceiling: 7-feet wide x 9-feet long x 8-feet high x 0.13 = 66. Select a fan with at least 70 CFM.
- Example 2: Bathroom with 9-foot ceiling: 10-feet wide x 9-feet long x 9-feet high x 0.13 = 105. Select a fan with at least 110 CFM.
- Example 3: Bathroom with a vaulted ceiling, use the average ceiling height at the wall and the peak: 8-feet wide x 12-feet long x ((8-feet at wall + 12-feet at peak) / 2 = 10-feet) average height x 0.13 = 125. Select a fan (or fans) with at least 130 CFM.

I installed this to replace our bathroom fan which was noisy and the cover had broken. After removing the old fan, I set to install this one. I had to cut out a larger hole (made easy by an oscillating tool), but it was a pain to install the unit inside the frame. I felt like I was bending the part you affix to the joist when putting the fan motor in. It took much longer than it should have. Now that it's in it's very quiet and seems to move the moisture out of the room. So I'm happy with the product, but if I had to install one again, I'd probably look to another brand for a better install process.

The actual bathroom did not had a fan.After some research I decided to buy the Nu-Tone single speed fan. I'm very happy with it.Kinda start the installation from scratch and it went well. It took me half a day to install the fan, the vent house and electricity, which is not that bad.Noise level is pretty low, it's powerful enough for the bathroom size (13x7 room) and it looks very good on the ceiling.I recommend it.

Easy installation, good draw. Noise wise, its a fan people, fans move air, air movement makes some noise. I'd say for the amount of air it moves, it's quiet.
