This is a very sturdy and well constructed roof vent. I really try hard to purchase items made in the USA and this was a really nice find in a sea of Chinese products. I purchased it to install in an already shingled roof as I was replacing a bathroom ceiling exhaust fan that was vented directly into the attic (the "This Old House" video on YouTube was very helpful for this project). I thought it was good to have the section of 4" duct already attached, but in retrospect, this made getting the vent underneath the existing shingles a bit more difficult. It did work out in the end, but I tore the two shingle flaps on the sides a bit tugging on them to get the vent underneath.I ended up having to enlarge the hole through the roof sheeting (plywood) to get the vent in place while sliding it under the shingles. This particular model would be better for new construction or in a situation where you are replacing the shingles. Alternatively, I could have removed the attached vent ducting collar and installed it as shown in the "This Old House" video. It worked just fine, but was a bit more difficult than a vent without the duct already attached. This vent has a nice galvanized screen and a flap that opens and closes to allow the vented air to escape. The screen was rubbing on the flap a bit, but was easily removed with a single screw and bent out of the way of the travel of the flap.Tools/Supplies I used:-hammer and nail (to mark the site for the vent placement from the inside of the attic-tape measure (to position the vent outside)-cordless drill with a 4-1/4" hole saw (to cut the hole through the sheeting of the attic roof)-utility knife (to cut shingles)-flat pry bar (to separate and elevate the shingles)-galvanized roofing nails-roofing caulk/caulk gun (to secure/waterproof the vent/shingles)

Robust product, easy enough to install if you are a fairly handy DIY-er; and easily for a pro. There is only one securing screw for the wire mesh to stop animals entering the exhaust tube from the outside. I would highly recommend the manufacturer to add one-two more securing screws to that mesh! I added two more (total of three) to secure it properly since Canadian raccoons and squirrels are highly tenacious little tykes.I followed the instructions to cut a hole in my roof, then self Installed and weather sealed it.It’s been weather tested via a few heavy rainstorms and windy days over the last 4-6 weeks and it’s held up very well indeed.Highly recommended (thus far) for Ontario weather (March-April 2024). Thank you. R.
