used to replace standard phone cable. speed slightly higher but less interference and a lot less jitter, etc as is shielded. bit expensive imo.

I wanted to relocate my modem to a more centralized and open area so that the wifi signal is stronger for my devices. This fits the bill to a tee. It's a shielded cable so there is no interference, and with 50 ft., it has ample length for me to move the modem to the ideal spot. It works really well for me, and the black Friday price is unbeatable (even the list price is far better than what what my ISP would charge - I did casually ask my ISP technician and my choice to go with this was validated).

I write this review in response to the guy who complained that the cable is from 1999.The cable is "SFTP" shielded, and this is printed on the jacket. Those letters stand for "Screened Fully-Shielded Twisted Pair."This is an improvement over regular phone cables because of three things.1. Pairs of conductors are twisted together to minimize crosstalk. This technology was invented by Alexander Graham Bell, so it much precedes the 1999 timestamp conferred by the other reviewer. it works by allowing both conductors of the pair to absorb the same amount of electromagnetic interference as one another from an adjacent source.2. The pairs are each shielded with foil. This is another means to keep electromagnetic interference from altering the signal transmitted across the pairs, and it dates back to Michael Faraday.3. All of the pairs (in this case two of them) are bundled and together wrapped in foil to further protect the integrity of the signals transmitted through them.None of this technology is groundbreaking, but the reason to use shielded cat 5e ethernet cable is simple: most phone cord doesn't go to such great lengths to protect the signal, while ethernet cable is designed with signal integrity in mind due to the greater throughput demanded by its applications. The connectors on this cable are very nice. Unlike most phone cords, they feature strain reliefs. The connectors are shielded, which is important for the foil shielding of the cables to work properly. At 7ft long, this cable may also be substantially shorter than the green DSL cable provided by your ISP. That is a good thing. If your green cable is bunched up and zip-tied, using a shorter cable ceteris paribus is an obvious way to reduce the voltage drop between your gateway and the ISP's DSLAM.This cable may not improve your connection if your internet is already working properly, but if you are having problems with your existing cable and/or you wish to spend a few bucks on a high-quality RJ11 cable for your DSL gateway, it is a solid choice. Don't worry about the year that cat 5e was introduced; cat 7 was introduced in 2002 but that doesn't mean 10GigE is obsolete. Focus instead on the problems you are having with your internet service and how to improve your connection by improving the weakest links in your setup.

Es un cable normal no aumenta ni disminuye la velocidad de internet, si lo necesitas está bien comprarlo, si lo compras porque aumentará tu velocidad de internet te sugeriría no hacerlo.

This RJ11 cable replaced a cable that had been in use from around 1986. Thought it was time to upgrade! The cable I replaced was un-shielded, and so allowed all types of noise into the line. As I use DSL, I found a nice upgrade in speed (nothing too major, another 100 kb/s in download) which I can only attribute to the reduction of noise in my line!Besides the added performance of this cable, they also look really cool. The outer insulating material in the cord is transparent, which allows you to see the shielding, and hopefully would allow you to identify any breaks in the cord. You know the shielding is good, because these cords are STIFF. There is actually a good amount of metal in the shielding, so this is a great confidence booster. The connectors are not gold, which isn't a drawback, because the whole gold plated connector business is basically a money grab. Having a gold connector would really only benefit you if you were transmitting an analog signal, such as audio from a stereo to speakers, or a VCR to a television. Now that we've moved into the digital age, the signal is a stream of 0's and 1's, so during transmission, you either get the 0's and 1's, or you don't. The connection therefore either works, or doesn't work. In other words, it doesn't really make sense to talk about the quality of a digital signal in the same way you would talk about the quality of an analog signal. Don't get confused though, you do want all types of shielding on the actual cable. The issue is that there is nothing special about having a gold connector that translates into signal quality. Preventing RF signals from introducing noise into the signal, is a somewhat different issue.ANYWAYS, the connectors are metal, and sturdy as heck. This is useful if you have a complicated install where wires might need to be pulled through tight spaces (in between walls, in my case) as you can grab the wire by the connector and pull it through. For any real distance of cable, I'd recommend using a snake to simplify the task.PROS:+ Quality construction, cords feel sturdy and strong.+ Plenty of shielding. You can feel it in the stiffness of the cord.+ Metallic connectors (not GOLD). Keeps the price down a bit.+ See-thru insulating material. Looks cool, but also allows you to inspect the interior of the cord.CONS:- Very stiff. (could make for a difficult install...but it's worth it!!)
