Well, there's not much of a choice in this product type. However, this one jumped to the top of my list. They are as they appear, what I'd say is heavy duty. They do what's described, and well. I wish I'd known of these years ago, - if even existed. So, I use three, two for groundwater rise that comes from water shed, so, we get wet from the ground up, not surface and not a high water level, "normally".Also, since have a water heater that needed T-stats changed, we stuck one in the overflow catch bucket to let us know of any issues, possibly prior to it's overflow. We're not sure how it may hold up to the water heater hot water, circa 110F ish but we guess it may be okay. And, if works as an early alarm, I'll guess, it will be fine. So, at this quality and price point, - good value.

I've had Watchdog water alarms in my homes for many years...and they have saved my bacon twice...and if you need a thin alarm to fit in a tight space...or you need to locate the sensor several feet away from the alarm, the Watchdog is a good choice. But, if you are looking for an alarm with a really loud and annoying signal that you can put in a bathroom sink cabinet and still hear...or if you are looking for an alarm with an attention grabbing flashing light...then without a doubt the Shackcom Basement Water Leak Detector Alarm should be at the top of the list. You make think the alarm itself is kind of cute...like a little robot, or you make think it ugly like it belongs in a plumber's box...but the volume and the flashing light really carry the day.The alarm is small...about 3" in diameter. Screw off the top (which opens easily), plop in the 9v battery and you are good to go. You can test it by moistening your finger and touching both electrodes...remove your finger and the alarm goes silent. Just a tiny bit of water on the floor and the alarm goes off...and if you want to enhance its ability to go off, just place it on a small paper towel cut to size. The towel will quickly absorb any water and voila, the alarm goes off...and did I say it is really LOUD (which is what you really want).Very highly recommended....in fact, I will buy a few more of them for other locations in the house. I've included a photo of the instructions that come with the alarm.Final note, The alarm I'm reviewing is the 9volt model. Shackcom also sells a floating alarm in a multi pack without the light...I'm not sure how well this product performs although others have said it can be difficult to screw the top off)

This works very well and has saved my laminate flooring when the washer started to leak - the alarm went off long before there was enough water to cause any major damage.
