Makes the best tasting coffee because it is percolated just the right amount. We use wraparound percolator filters to keep out grounds and easy clean up. In 43 years of marriage we have had 5 or 6 at various times including for RV living. We’ve tried many other coffee makers but this one remains our favorite (along with Keurig as we have both) Sleek profile. Small footprint. Coffee stays very hot. Hint: use a wall timer to efficiently manage on-off!

This did brew coffee and my issues with it may not be anything to a regular percolator owner/user, but here goes.My experience with one is from my childhood when an aunt had one. Best coffee I ever tasted. I remember the bubbling in the glass knob at the top and when it stopped bubbling at the top it was ready. When it was done, just pour and serve. GREAT! So, that is my limited experience.I bought this pot on the good reviews here and online. Maybe picky, but here are my issues with it:This one is a total feeling, but the handle shape is strange to my hand when you fill it with the max water. The handle feels flimsy and out of balance. I saw a few reviews online where the handles had just come apart and with the weight of the water and how the pot is balanced when picking up, I could see a potential for stress breaks. Now this is just a feeling, but when I filled it or carried it I always felt like I had to support the bottom to stop the handle being stressed. Maybe there are plenty out there that have gone years with no problem in daily use, but did not feel correct to me.Instructions say to remove the internals, once it is done brewing, before serving. This is fun. First, lid is tight (that's a good thing), but the knob feels flimsy on the top so I always felt like I had to be very careful is gently pressuring the lid off. The plastic knob, I assume, is screwed onto a threaded post that is affixed to the top of the metal lid. There is no attaching hardware visible from under the lid. If the knob were to snap off then hopefully the mount would stay on and you could either get a replacement or something else that would thread on.Perhaps you can ignore the instruction to remove the internals, but then the pour spout is right at the top so everything you are getting is coming out right at the filter area. Not ideal to me so I feel you have to follow the instruction.Of course, removing the internals before serving requires removing a super hot dripping mess. As such I felt I needed to do this by the sink. So, unplug, towels or pot holders out, hold the hot pot in place, wiggle lid off so as not to stress knob, take towel/paper towel/pot holder etc. and grab the stem on top of the internals, lift out and into the sink, prop so it does not fall over and dump wet grounds everywhere and then put lid to pot back on. Just me, but then I feel I need to go ahead and clean everything before relaxing and enjoying my coffee. The cord is SHORT. The actual wire between connectors measures approx. 22.5 inches long. This is basically just enough to plug it on the counter right in front of the plug area at my house. My plug is under the upper cabinet in my kitchen and approx. 9 inches up off the counter to the first plug inlet. Most of the cord length is taken up bridging this gap from plug height to bottom of pot to plug in. To keep it plugged in for the warm function and then actually pick it up and pour coffees is cumbersome. So, we unplug it. Maybe the warm function would kick in if you plug it back in (perhaps it would sense the liquid is already warm) or perhaps it would start a perk function again. Not tested as to have the plug in with that short cord does not work for me. I unplug it and just leave it sit on the counter to pour additional coffees.Perception here, but the cord also seems lower grade. Sure it looks like a thick, three wire, heavy-duty cord, but it is not like the shiny black, heavy-duty cords I have on other appliances. If I take a thumbnail and gently push on the side of those cords it does not really make a mark and they feel more substantial (electric kettle I have). This cord is dull black and will easily indent with a soft push of my nail. It springs back, but just makes me feel that the plastic is softer and perhaps more inclined to damage or separate. I actually found where others have had the cord break and had to replace it, but did not see those reviews until after seeing how this cord was on the one I bought.Spout. My purchase decision was actually swayed towards this pot because it had the short pour spout at the top and I thought it would be easier to clean. Now I'm less enamored with it. The spout is a simple U shape metal "funnel" at the top of the pot. The coffee actually comes out of the side of the pot through a small, round, hole that is raised within this U shape. The design allows a bit of coffee to pool in the bottom of the spout and sit there. Now, maybe the other pots with a lower hole and long spout from towards the bottom of the pot may work exactly the same and you just don't see any pooling in the spout area, but as I can see this at the top, it bothers me. Seems like a spot to keep dabbing dry each pour and/or a spot where you could get a buildup of dirt/whatever if not regularly cared for. Sure you clean the pot after each use, but still seems like a residue collector.I have a tough time knowing when the coffee is done. I knew there was no light to indicate it was done and no clear knob to see the thing actually perking (or not), but I guess I sort of expected the same obvious perk sound that I remember from the old glass knob one my aunt had. This pot does not make the same sort of sound and it is not obvious to me when it is actually done. Especially if we have some low AM music going. I've yet to catch an obvious "brewing off" type sound in going about my daily AM routine. So, I find myself guessing, putting my ear by the pot and wondering if the sound is it still working or that is a keep warm type sound. I now look over at the clock when I plug it in, wait around 15 min (12 cup make) to hopefully be sure it is done and go from there.Maybe these are all non-issues for everyone, but they are issues for me in my beginning adventure into perk coffee again. I guess I should have bought an old style percolator with the glass knob you could see the perk water bubbling up in or at the very least, one that has a light that either comes on or goes out when the perk is done. I'm going to start researching those and also paying close attention to the cord lengths.

I bought one a few years ago and used it like crazy for 4 years when it went belly up and suddenly stopped heating. My coworker gifted me with the second one and it lasted almost a year before it stopped making hot coffee versus warm coffee. When it worked great, it was incredible and the coffee was smooth with a rough grind from fresh Aldi coffee beans but I'm so disappointed and this one dying in under a year that I have switched to a different brand coffee maker altogether.

As others have said this does not have the aluminum heating element at the bottom like other brands. The entire inside where water touches appears to be stainless steel, also no plastic. I will find a small magnet to double check and will update this review if I find any issues. It needs a light for brewing completion and I wish it had a heating base that you could remove the coffee vessel. I have tried all kinds of coffee over the years and have found percolator is the best for time invested in preparation. The lid also does not fit particularly well but it is functional. I also wonder if the resting heat mode varies between hot and boiling. I will continue to observe. Great solution for smooth coffee. Get you a Virtuoso grinder and set it on 30. Works great.

We have been using the percolator for almost a month and we love it. The coffee tastes so much better than our old drip coffee maker. Percolators take up less counter space. I also like have a detachable cord. Very happy with this purchase.
