Used it once, a bit stiff - but grabbed rope fine. I used it to "lock" the harness in place. It keeps "grabbing" the rope as long as there is tension.

I have this rope grab so I can go up on the roof of a two-story house. I won't go up there without fall protection when one little slip could mean serious injury or death. The rope grab will stop my fall if I do happen to slip. Everyone please work safely.

I'm too cheap to pay someone else to do something for which I am capable. I got a quote for some roof repair that had a lot more dollar signs than I expected. Their concern was the "pitch of the roof made the job more difficult so they had to charge accordingly".The hardest part was figuring out to what I was going to anchor. Took the lifeline rope (yes you need a special rope) and tied to my truck's brush guard and threw the other end over the pitch of the roof. Adding the arrester device isn't difficult at all (compared to making your own harness out of rope). My stepson and I had fun testing it by hopping off the second rung of the ladder. It does what it is supposed to do. I recommend a real climbing harness as every now and then the rope harness can shift and put a lot of pressure where you don't want it...Highly recommend if you're working on a roof or high up in a tree. This thing when used properly will save your bacon.~Cheers

I have used several fall prevention devices over the years when tower climbing. This FHFallArrest Fall Protection Rope Grab is very sturdy and well made. It is also extremely easy to attach to your safety line and convenient to move up and down the line when on the move. In my experience, if something is difficult or cumbersome to use you will be less likely to use it. So, that's a big positive. To use this device, you simply unscrew the knurled knob, fold it open and cradle your line inside, then close it and tighten the knob. It is extremely important to use the proper size and type of line required. Smaller or larger line, or line which is too soft or hard will be outside of the design specifications of the device. So, basically, it might not work as designed - ie, save your life if you fall. Once attached, you attach your lifeline to the loop. If you fall, your weight will pull a cam into the rope and arrest your fall. It also has a feature where if this doesn't happen for some reason, like you panic and grab the line the friction of the slide will also lock the cam. This is similar to the way an elevator self-arrest works. It is very easy to slide the device up and down the safety rope with you. As long as there is no downward force on the ring it will slide freely. This means it won't require your constant attention. But if you have an accident, it will catch you. I'd recommend investing in a good quality safety strap. Mine is a fall arrest line, with a strap sewn into a small bag in such a way as it will pull apart under your weight and gradually arrest your fall. If you have a solid line and you fall expect a very sudden stop, with the only flex being the stretch in your lines, which if using Dacron, for example, isn't very much. That can cause injury in itself. When climbing or working in high places you never expect to fall. But it is always a possibility. Not using a properly designed and rated fall arrest device can cause severe injury or death. It is required and a must in most professions and on most jobs. This is an excellent little device. it's reasonably priced and very easy to use. I like it. It easily gets five stars.
