Ive had a similar little tester for a couple years now, but it's always acted a bit sketchy. I decided it was probably a safe idea to get a replacement before that one eventually gave me a false negative at the wrong time and caused some real headaches. This unit works very well for everything I've thrown at it. No false positives or negatives. The instructions are alright, and do a decent job explaining how to use the various functions. The only weird thing I've noticed is the complete lack of branding on the device and box. It doesn't say FrogBro anywhere that I can find. Kinda odd.

As I do with most things, I stopped and read the instructions before even putting batteries in the unit, and I was left with more questions than understanding. But I had an appliance to install, so I put it to the test. This testing device is intuitive and easy to use. The display panel is very clear and tells you almost everything you need to know. I was easily able to determine when my cable was live or not. It instantly and clearly was able to trace power lines in the wall. Plugging the outlet tester in immediately showed the status of the outlet - I found most of my outlets are good but I do have one with an open ground, which it showed graphically and in text.I did test a AA which was sitting at 1.5v, as it should, but the tester gave me no indication of how much life it had left. I have other testers for that, though. This tool now stays in my tool bag, and think it'll keep me a little safer.

The tool works but I am really not crazy about the voltage test feature. With a 9v battery, no big deal but being part of the testing circuit is a dangerous choice. It's not dangerous if used as directed but it seems to easy to inadvertently become part of the testing path on something like 120VAC which is not ideal if you value your health. As far as finding breakers. No clue and it's not mentioned in the tiny paper manual.

I must admit that I have never seen a device quite like this one. It has a varied set of capabilities including testing household electrical outlets for proper wiring, testing AC and DC voltages, and detecting electrical fields. The outlet testing is extremely simple--turn the device on and set it to outlet mode, take the back cover off, and stick it in a live outlet. If it's wired properly, it will display "Correct" and if it's not, it will report what isn't connected properly. The voltage test is what really struck me as odd. The way to test a battery with the device involves becoming part of the electrical circuit(!). Notice that the device has only one probe. The instructions say to place a finger on the ground post of the battery, place your thumb on the metal contact on the side of the device, and to touch the probe tip to the positive battery terminal. Therefore you are carrying the ground through your body. It's possible to test AC and DC voltages this way, but of course the instructions are very careful to point out that it's a maximum of 30VAC. Obviously it's a terrible idea to do this with household current! The electronic field detection is very simple--just point the tip at the place where you're looking for a signal. The device will make sounds depending on the strength of the field it detects. My only real criticism of the device (other than my reservations about being part of a circuit) is that the instructions are pretty poor. They're in small print on a single sheet of paper and are really hard to understand. I see this a lot with equipment made in Asia and this is certainly no exception. I deducted a star for that reason.

I like that I can quickly check for live AC voltage. I don't like that there is a small screw that has to be completely removed to replace batteries. I'm sure the screw will get lost sooner than later. One thing to note is that you have to make sure you're touching the contacts on the size when measuring AC voltage. The instructions weren't super helpful. The voltage measurements were accurate on contact. I wasn't able to get voltage measurements with an air gap.Build quality seems good. This will be my go-to voltage measurement device, so I don't need to dig out my digital multimeter.
