I mounted it on a wooden block with a cheap drill that has a power button that locks on. Added a crayon box to the block of wood to hold the tools and adapters that came with it .This made a nice portable drill press for about $60 that I can carry with one hand to wherever I need to work.

This is well made but the vertical motion - on assembly - was very poor. The cylindrical bar wasslightly bent. I suppose that I was unlucky to have received a slightly bent bar. After filing and bashing the bar through the part that moved there was reasonable movementbut not smooth. A bit of Vaseline (any grease would do) enabled the bar to be pushed back andforth to give - eventually - a nice smooth action. There was minor damage from this process and someadjustments were needed to the drill holder (the guides for the yellow sliding bit).It would have been nice to have had a lathe to machine the vertical bar to be a perfect cylinder! So after some hard work a very nice drill press resulted.

I was pleasantly surprised by the 'more-than-good-enough' quality and effectiveness of this inexpensive solution. You DO have to engage some brain cells to get this thing set up properly -- this is not for the mechanically challenged and you will have to rely on your brains mostly and not on the instruction manual (which is poor at best).I hooked this up with a BIG, HEAVY 1/2" power drill and it did just fine on 1/4" aluminum plate stock and an irregularly shaped cast-aluminum remote oil filter mount for our boat. That said, I also applied some moly grease to the adjustment screws/threads to make sure the collett clamp was gripping properly.No...this will not substitute for your mom's (or dad's) 3/4 horsepower machine-shop quality drill press you hope you'll inherit someday, if you can only get it out of their basement...But when you're in a pinch, it can get you out of a jam.

This is a benchtop drillpress, not a floor drill press as the title mistakenly says.I needed a small bench-top drill press and I already had an older, corded, 1/2" 5 amp VSR hand drill that I really didn't use much since it needed to be plugged in. It had a detachable side handle for higher torque drilling, and the space where it mounted fitted perfectly with the mounting ring on this press. There are several bushings included with the press for various sized drills, so as long as your drill has the space above the arbor for mounting to the press and the diameter falls in the range specified for the press, it should work for your drill. It was simple to assemble, and allen wrenches are included. Be sure to keep them handy though, because you need a couple of them to raise/lower the drill, and to set the plunge depth. The only thing I did to alter the press was to use some 5/16" bolts and mount it to a piece of 11/16" plywood so I can "C"-clamp it to my benchtop for stability on heavier work (see photo). But to be honest, I've used this thing several times now, and with the wider footprint it has with the attached plywood, I haven't needed to clamp it in place. This is nice, necause it makes it a lot mor versatile to use it anywhere you have space to set it.It works well for most small household jobs and is easy to set up and put away. It's a nice tool, for the money.

I gave this drill press 3 stars because it fills a niche for those who don't want to invest in a more expensive drill press. I didn't rate it higher because it's not well made and I fear it wouldn't hold up to more demanding applications.I was working on a project that required drilling 224 holes using a 2" forstner bit. I was rebuilding the railing on my log cabin. The holes needed to be perpendicular to the 3 1/2" round rails and sunk to the same depth. This drill press provided the stable platform for drilling perpendicular holes in the 6' long rails and has a visual depth gauge to drill holes to a similar depth. And it allowed me to use my Milwaukee 1/2" drill, which is a high quality drill that I knew had enough power to drive the 2" forstner bit to the 1 1/2" depth required.I considered buying a larger bench-top motorized drill press, but I felt I would have difficulty maneuvering these long rails into the drill and I was concerned that cheaper models wouldn't have the power required to turn the forstner bit.The quality issue that I mentioned previously occurred when I was adjusting the height of the drill over the rail. The mechanism that holds the drill slides on the chrome pole and clamps in place by tightening two bolts using an Allen wrench. The first issue was that the Allen wrench began to distort the bolt head slot with only moderate pressure. Because I was afraid to put too much pressure when tightening these bolts, the drill moved up on the pole when I applied downward pressure on the press handle. When I tried again to tighten the bolts the threads on both of them stripped (see picture). My solution was to replace these two bolts with good quality stainless steel bolts from the local hardware store. I highly recommend that you do this before you use this drill press. The quality of these bolts, or lack there of, makes me believe that this drill press is made from low quality materials and would not hold up in more rigorous applications, such as drilling thicker metal where significant downward force is required. But it did fit the need I had and was a relatively cheap way to get the control I needed to drill straight holes to a consistent depth.
