while I wanted this thing to look as good as it works, they finish is very sub par and seems cheaply done. works fine though so will stay in my camp kit.

Overall this percolator functions well but you are paying a premium for the enamel which has flaws. The pros:1. It percolates and makes coffee well enough.2. It is an attractive percolator. The enamel and design do look good for the most part. The Cons:1. The enamel is very inconsistent over the whole pot if you look carefully. There are a couple of areas where it feels like a bubble is forming under the enamel. There are also visible runs in the enamel that are hard to capture in a photo.2. The bulb does not fit level in the top of the pot. It still works fine but visually it does not sit flat. This is something you will see in most inexpensive camp style percolators.3. The capacity is a little lower than advertised. If the basket sat higher on the central tube the capacity might be right.I'd note that the basket and perc tube appear to be aluminum which is not listed as a material. This percolator reminds me of ones you might find in the camping section of a big box store. They are certainly functional, however for this price there are better but less stylish options. Ultimately the decision will be whether you want the classic enameled look or if you want something that is higher quality but without the enamel.

In the past I've just used instant coffee and heated water in a pot on my camp stove, but thought I'd give this a try as my son may be camping with me now and he drinks coffee, too. This looked appealing with a nice enamel finish, and is similar to one my camping buddies use. The enamel is not evenly coated on the inside so I do have some concerns with it rusting over time, but we'll see. The basket and pole inside appear to be aluminum, which doesn't bother me too much, but the whole coffee pot is not steel, as alluded to in the description. When I got this, it doesn't feel real heavy-gauge and, honestly, feels kind of cheaply made, but it is fairly lightweight. The resin cap on top was not seated properly - I was able to take it out (found plastic-wrap on part of it when I did) and then re-insert it. It took a bit of work and I kind of had to force it in, but I was able to get it to sit flat.Probably the most disappointing thing for me with this is that you must use "course ground" coffee. For camping and anything other than the occasional coffee at home I don't grind my own beans, I use the Folgers or some other brand of pre-ground coffee which won't work for this maker unless you use a filter, which significantly weakened the coffee when I made a pot to test this out, and I still had some grounds in the bottom of the pot. Even if do I grind my own beans before going camping and set it on a course grind, inevitably I end up with some finer grounds which are sure to fall right through the holes in the basket. At the end of it all, I plan to keep this but from now on will likely just go back to instant coffee and use this to heat water. Not sure I would recommend it, though, for the current $35 price tag.
