I have a huge Orca parafoil kite. I hooked it up to this reel, which was easy since it has a fishing spinner hook that closes. I usually fly kites on the beach or at the local marina in the bay area, CA. With more powerful winds, letting the whole reel of string out is a breeze with this reel. I bought this at the same time I purchased a similar, more expensive reel, which came with a glove. I use the glove when reeling in a kite flown with this reel too. This reel works great, however, in high wind situations while flying a very large kite, it is a bit difficult to wind the string onto the reel w/o having to lock the reel every couple turns. And, it kind of hurts my hand when my hand is in the grip holes, thus I wear the glove that came w/a more expensive reel.

This product was exactly as described. It held up flying kites off of the NJ shore in 15 mph winds with gusts +- 5 mph. We attached this kite string reel to a high end kite that flew out over the beach and ocean. It was easy to reel in, held /locked the line in place, and was simple to hold for various hand sizes. Our six year old children and their friends were able to navigate using this product as well as several adults.We fly kites approximately 8-10 days a year and this particular reel made the kite flying experience more enjoyable. We are far from being professional kite fliers, but certainly have ample experience flying. I felt that the product was worth the price of the reel. The clip to attach to the kite was easy to depress and held up after multiple flights for over an hour each time. We strongly recommend this product for other kite flying families.

So, I recently purchased this for an adult hand who’s left handed, and boy that was a mistake but I can still make it work. So that’s my first issue with it. The second issue is that the plastic is very cheap, thin, and not very durable. If I were to drop it on concrete, for sure it would break. Last but not least. Is the size of the line. It’s for small beginner kites, nothing really above that, but I will try to fly a small to mid size kite on it. Lastly the line on the reel was a bit dry looking, like it’s been sitting in the sun for too long. This worries me, when the kite is flying the line might break. Also the bearing on the reel are missing some. So when I hold it, it sounds like a rattle and can be quite annoying. With all the being said, I still recommend this for a child who’s just beginning to learn.

I have large hands and have no problem holding the reel. This reel is great. The quality of string is very good. It reminds my of a braided fishing line and it seems very strong and durable. My 3 year-old son had no problem holding the reel once I got the kite up. It has actual steel ball bearings and the reel spins freely and very fast if you let it. I burned my hand a little with the friction, but that's to be expected with anything of similar design. The quality of all materials seems durable and I am overall happy with the unit I received. Some reviews claim there was some line splicing but I did not experience that. I don't think it's quite 100 meters long, it barely seems to be about 100 yards, though I haven't actually measured it and will not be in the future. I have only used it once, but will update if my thoughts change.
