AMAZING~!!!!!!!!! AMAZINGLY Quiet ~!!!!!!!!!!! AMAZINGLY powerful ~!!!!!! , & EASY to install , energy star compliant . I bought this to replace Whirlpool InSinkErator and like some i was concerned that it looked so much bigger than my old one , but the larger section is on the top so there was no loss of room vs the original. , it includes two pipes that for must cases will attach right to existing P trap ( especially if replacing old disposal unit ) , almost no noise at all , I tested the performance immediately and was shocked that no matter what I put down there , the engine did not even bat an eye , lol , the two stage grind and sound muffling second chamber work great , although bones are not recommended I put slow cooked ( so semi softened) pork rib bones in there and it made no more noise than an orange peel , didn't even skip a beat. ( of course I wouldn't stick a raw bone in it lol that was a test ), , celery root and fibrous roots that would get stuck under old impellers do not ( so no need to clean impellers with a hand full of ice like older models :) ) and if something a little harder gets down there , the carbide tipped first stage design will keep chipping away till gone . but I have to point out that the rubber insert is easy out so you can extract something that gets in the drain accidentally , VERY easily. , and pops right back down in place without worry of pushing through , my old disposal had to be uninstalled to get past or replace rubber insert. so BIG plus there. , all in all for the price the best disposal I've ever installed or owned. I SEE NO REASON TO SPEND THE MONEY FOR THE HIGHER PRICED OR POWERFUL UNITS UNLESS YOU OWN A RESTAURANT. , I AM EXTREMELY SATISFIED WITH THIS MODEL IN BOTH PRICE , AND PERFORMANCE ~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A MUST BUY.

I got this to replace old (it served over 6 years even though it only had 2-year warranty) Badger 5 unit which had recently started to get "stuck" pretty often and had interior reservoir made out of galvanized steel which can rust through after few years - I thought I'd change it before it will finally rust through or crack and start leaking water all over the cabinet space. This new unit arrived pretty fast and was packaged pretty decently (Amazon basically puts the "factory" box into its own larger cardboard box), it included most necessary parts (if you're going to use included sink collar - you'll also need to buy some "plumber's putty" at local store), was relatively easy to install and so far performed much, much better (much more quiet, hasn't "stuck" or overheated yet) than old, crappy Badger.Just a few suggestions - you can easily reuse the electrical cable from your previous unit (but if you didn't have any - you'll need to buy the cable separately, InSinkErator also sells it here on Amazon). You might also need to trim down the included plastic discharge tube, so you should have some kind of handsaw available (or you can easily do it with Dremel's cutting disk or a power saw if you have these). Also, this unit is relatively HEAVY and you will need to lift it and hold it for few seconds with both hands while securing it with mounting ring, so make sure that either someone else will be able to assist you with that or use some kind of temporary stand to hold the unit in such position if you will be doing it alone. Also, WATCH THE VIDEOS - YouTube has plenty of installation videos of all kind of InSinkErator models from different people, it will make installing very easy for you even if you never done that. All in all - don't be afraid of changing your old unit with this one, it's really not hard at all (especially if you have someone present to assist with few physical tasks) and in the end you'll feel glad and proud that you've done something like that all by yourself ;-)

First off ~ Man, I love this thing, I do ... It's *fast* ~ and it's just as quiet as a church house mouse ...Okay - so - The review -- Like a lot of people, I had the standard (not so great) disposal that came with the house and it looked like they sort of crammed it in there ~ it was a 1/2 HP little thing that worked great, but was just about as noisy as an old school diesel engine and eventually just pfffft quit (actually, it didn't - it rusted out the bottom *yikes*).After much research, I decided on this gem ~ The InSinkErator Evolution Essential (oooh ahhh) ... It was 14 x 10 x 13 (the old one was 14.7 x 7.6 x 7.4 ) and it was going in the same space as the old one come heck or high water. (I was wearing my scared face, too because I was doing the installation myself and I had NO PLUMBING EXPERIENCE!).In preparation - because I had an older model garbage disposal no longer available on the market (I'm not sure it was ever available on the open market) ~ I went to the local big box hardware store and purchased every available item I might possibly need for disposal installation (except of course InSinkerator's Power Cord - why would I need that? *slamming head on desk*), then I got down to business ...InSinkErator's directions are ridiculously easy to follow (*I* could follow them - how hard could they be?!) ~ they did include uninstall directions (of previous disposal) - that went easy as pie and not too much mess, but they don't warn you, do try to keep that thing as upright / level as possible :o) ...And they give a couple of different scenarios for installation of their disposal - they're very clear about what works and what tools you will need - what the order of steps are, etc. The hardest part was lifting the blasted thing up to hook it on - the thing is not light weight :o)Now, the following is *my* experience ~ *your* experience may vary - Prior to install, I looked at the pipes under my sink / the old disposal / the new one / the measurements / the whole setup and I thought - No way - there is *no way* the new disposal will fit ... Well, it fit. I guess because of the design? - didn't even have to squeeze anything, didn't have to mash anything over, didn't bump anything, etc etc ... It fit just like the old disposal fit ~ just right - I don't know how it fit like that, but it did *shrugging shoulders* ...After everything was put together - I ran it and it runs like a spotted ape. First thing I threw in there was a couple of week old oatmeal raisin cookies (man, you could throw those things at someone and do some serious damage, right? Yeah, I didn't make them ... ) - it chewed them right up in two seconds flat, didn't even hesitate and it did it very, very quietly! I've been using it several times a day every day since install - I'm just happy as a clam :o)Second thing to note: I did follow the instructions for the "Dishwasher Hookup" - and when the dishwasher is running (that's the second thing I checked :o) ) it's *much* quieter! I had NO idea how much noise the disposal made / created / however you say it in combination with the dishwasher when the dishwasher was running and how much the noise would diminish with a new / different disposal ~ it flat out amazed me and my dishwasher is much quieter than I realized :o)So - Is it a good disposal, IMO? Yes! So far, it has been great - I do a great deal of cooking and baking and use it *several* times a day. It grinds up everything I've thrown into it so far without any problem and it does it *quickly* and quietly. Is the installation easy? It took me a couple of hours - I have NO prior plumbing experience AT ALL and I was able to do it. Their included instructions are very easy to follow.Just about everything you will need is included with the disposal itself. You will need a few household tools ~ screwdriver, phillip's head screwdriver, plumber's putty, putty knife, (I think that was it - you can go to their website and download the instructions which also shows a list of what you might need ~ also - listed on there is a cable connector - that is included in their if you purchase it).Downside? - The only real downside to this disposal is - hmm ... When I think of one, I'll edit this and let you know :o) ... I know several people have posted about water drainage being a problem, but - while I have noticed water draining *a little* bit slower, it's not enough to start filling up my sink *at all* - not even filling up the collar of the sink ... and that's running the water at full blast, so ...Now, off I go to return all of the items I purchased at the big box home improvement store prior to installation - I ended up not needing any of them with the exception of the power cord kit.
