The listing said this machine was metal... wrong, the case was plastic. The bobbin holder and plate were metal, so I decided to give it a try. Wow, so easy to use, works beautifully! It was actually enjoyable sewing on this machine. I had a wonderful machine that was my mother's, but I gave it to one of my children after buying a Singer, never used and in the box at a garage sale. What a piece of junk it was. I hated using it. So, I decided to give it to Goodwill and buy a new one. Janome brand was recommended, sews through thick fabric easily, and did not pucker the rayon lining either. Started stitches nicely and was fairly quiet. Love it!

I am an avid sewer but have slowed down in the amount I do in the last few years. So I gave my high-end sewing machine and serger to my daughter who loves to sew (so does her daughter). But I still needed a sewing machine. So I went online and read the ratings for various sewing machine companies on various websites that rated sewing machines, and Janome came out on top over and over again.I am in my 70's and have been sewing since age 7; I have made men's suits, complicated wedding dresses and bridesmaid dresses for many shapes of women, have made draperies and slip covers for furniture, and many other sewing projects, so I am an accomplished seamstress.This machine is a basic sewing machine and actually full-size and heavy enough to not bounce around, much like the sewing machines I learned on in junior high school in home economics. It's a sturdy workhorse of a machine and would be ideal for someone wanting a starter machine. I intend to keep mine indefinitely. (I would NOT recommend one of those mini sewing machines. I bought one for a friend, and it was awful. So stay away from them. They do not work as expected and they are frustrating to work with, especially someone new to sewing. The pre-set stitches were so tiny and could not be adjusted.) The instruction booklet that comes with this machine clearly explains (with explicit drawings) how to work the machine and do the various techniques. It has the old style bobbin that sets in under the machine's sewing arm, not a drop in bobbin on top that so many of the other machines have. That's not a problem for me, but it may be a drawback for some people. It does straight and zig-zag stitching and the stitch length and width are adjustable. It has a variety of stitches, and knobs to set the stitch you want. You can sew on buttons and make buttonholes. You can do stretch stitching with knits, and also do smocking, and applique. It comes with several feet to use for many projects. Mine also came with extra needles and extra bobbins. I like the telescoping thread holder on top...when it is down it doesn't get in the way of a cover or a machine case. I've sewn a variety of projects since buying it and it works like a charm, so smooth and almost effortless. No problems at all with it. What you get for the price (I paid $189 for mine) is well worth it. I don't regret buying it.And it was packaged well, arrived undamaged, and was shipped quickly to me so I am pleased with this vendor.

I have been in the market for my own sewing machine for a few months. My mother has been sewing all of my life, so I caught on to the craft at an early age and enjoyed tinkering on her machine to make little projects. As an adult, I have been making trips to her house to use her machine when needed. I recently decided that I'd like to be able to make and mend at my leisure with my own machine, so I started researching and comparing the top brands on Amazon.I didn't want to spend more than $175 on a sewing machine that I wouldn't be using everyday, but I also didn't want a low-quality machine that would only sew one layer of material at a time. My initial needs for the machine were Halloween curtains, Halloween costumes and leather seat covers for my car. Obviously, I needed a machine that would allow me to sew through leather so I started looking for "Heavy Duty" sewing machines. My first search led me to a Singer, which is what my mother has and what I'm used to. I literally had that machine in my Amazon cart and was about to check out when this Janome caught my eye in the recommended section. After reading the reviews and comparing the two machines, I knew this was the one and I bought it on the spot. I am so glad that I did.This machine performs all the basic functions of any standard sewing machine and it does them extremely well. The speed with which it sews is phenomenal; I finished a quick set of curtains in under ten minutes and was pleasantly surprised with the results. The Exclusive Bonus Bundle is also fantastic. The other machine I was considering hardly included any extras, but this one has a full pack of extra bobbins, two packs of replacement needles, replacement presser feet, and a METAL (not plastic) 4-step buttonhole foot as well as a detailed and helpful instruction manual. It has the ability to sew 12 different stitches (I have only experimented with a few, but they have all worked beautifully) and I have not had issues with my thread breaking even once (a far cry from my previous sewing machine experiences). I find myself looking around the apartment for things to mend or re-purpose so that I can keep using my machine! When I'm finished with a project, my extras and tools go inside the slide out compartment on the machine, the dust cover goes on top, and the machine and power cord go into the closet. I don't have to leave it out because it's too heavy to move, and it's always a breeze to set up; just plug it in and go!All in all, I couldn't be more pleased with this purchase. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned seamstress, this machine offers a top quality performance to help you create beautiful projects with ease. I recommend the Janome 2212 Sewing Machine one hundred percent.

I'm writing this review after 5 months of using the machine.I mostly use it to stitch dresswmes and gowns. It's good. The machine works well. I'm satisfied.
