I've done 30 roasts now using this roaster. Have had some great coffee from it. Takes a few roasts to get it tuned in, be patient. Do not use preset times on medium or dark settings. Just set a timer on your phone and track the stages of your roast by sight and popping of first crack. Simple to use and cheap way to get great coffee once you fine tune your roast!! I would recommend this roaster to any beginner!

The machine makes excellent coffee, is relatively easy to clean - the only negative is that it takes quite a while to brew, but this is minor compared to the result.

I bought this 40 days ago. It made a perfect cup of coffee. Just the best. An absolute treat. Then it abruptly stopped working - with smoke coming out of it (I suspect a stray coffee bean piece got lodged way up in the grinder somehow) and became completely unusuable. I left it a one-star review because of this. A week or two later, I'm editing that review to five-stars. I contacted the seller, they got right back to me, sent me a new coffee maker free of charge and I am back to having more perfect cups of coffee. It's so good.

I don't write many reviews, but a great cup of coffee is everything to me! Therefore, I had to write a review for this new find to let others know that I struck gold in the price range that works with a pocket such as mine. I had a Keurig for years and because I didn't have the big bucks to put out for the top-of-the-line Keurig coffee maker, my coffee was always weak. However, after deciding to go on a personal mission to find the perfect coffee maker, I finally ran into this little guy, and WOW what an AMAZING coffee maker it is! It's easy to use, and easy to clean. It instructs you as far as the maximum amount of beans you can put into it and the flavor and temperature it puts out is incredible! I only have one cup of coffee in the morning, so making a pot is pointless; even if it's just a small pot. This machine only makes one cup of coffee, but it is by far the best cup of coffee I have ever made myself! So, if you don't have deep pockets, aren't multiple cups of coffee drinker, and just crave that perfect 12oz wake-up that you can prepare the night before, this JAVASTARR Coffee Maker is the best and most affordable gift you can treat yourself to. I give it five stars and just know that if someone as particular as me is satisfied, you will be too!

I just started roasting my own coffee. My first try at pan roasting was, to my surprise, very successful, leaving coffee with an excellent flavor. But too smoky for my range hood to cope with. To avoid irritating my wife, I decided to get this, which I can run in the garage.The chaff collector is easy to clean and works very well, and operation is, on the whole, straightforward. I can see that it's going to require some experimentation to get optimal results though. There are only two settings: medium and dark, and there's a cooling mode for when roasting is finished. Another reviewer said medium was too dark. My experience was that it's not dark enough. (The unit went into cooling mode not long after the first crack finished.) I conjecture that this might depend on the variety of coffee and perhaps the amount of coffee beans used. I used slightly more than the recommended 70g. Next time I'm going to use less coffee and see if it's darker. I also need to try the dark setting. According to the manual it's possible to interrupt the roasting and send the unit into cooling mode right away, so this might be the way to go once I figure out timing.Anyway, the coffee was very good, and I'm very optimistic that I'll soon find the settings that give my preferred roasting level.
