My 48" wide accordion door in my clubroom is about 40 years old and the first carrier on the handle side broke off a few years ago that made the door scrape on the floor when it was closed. Tired of this bad condition when using the door I researched finding a replacement part to fix the door. The existing carriers were made of metal, but all my research on the internet came up with only one company that made a carrier for an accordion door, JR, that advertised that its carrier part, which was plastic not metal, was for accordian doors installed in RV vehicles. I only needed one carrier but it was packaged in as 14 item package. The price with tax was about $10.50 which was cheaper than replacing with a new 48" accordian door that would cost over $80.00. I took the door down, drilled out the old, damaged carrier and then installed one of the new plastic carrier in the same hole. I attached he new carrier using a #6 screw bolt that was 3/8" long, split washer and a flat washer. The plastic carrier was very close to the length of the existing metal carriers so I had no problems with the final operation of the sliding of the door. It was a perfect replacement and I am completely satisfied with the results by saving on not needing a new accordion door. Of course, I have 13 plastic carriers left for any future repairs, but the existing metal carriers appear to be fine. I have provided 3 photos to show you the competed door and close ups of the repaired carrier (plastic) and with the existing metal carriers. Worked out great for my accordion door repair!
