A basic Amazon search will quickly verify of what I speak as 4-6 plates/bowls are the prevailing-offered number for items such as these.When I was offered the opportunity to acquire and review them as a gold-rated member in Amazon's Vine Voice reviewer program, I jumped at the chance to order them. When they arrived in their well-packaged carton, I was immediately overwhelmed by their 'heavy', weighty-like feel - - as well as their superb visual cosmetic look. Since the 2 plates are normally sufficient to entertain any typical dinner guest-couple I might invite (I don't have a large family, nor children), I've by now made a mental note to purchase an additional pair of them (before they might become unavailable in the future) in order to feel secure that I'd have the future capability of entertaining additional guests (at one sitting) if the occasion should arise. You can't ask for a better product endorsement than that!Some of the individual, beneficial features I've noted re these beautiful culinary accessories are:1) Aside from my personal pasta-usage preference, these 8.7" diameter, 1.8" high, 32 ounces capacity porcelain bowls can also be used for salads, cereals and soups. I guess that I relate to these bowls as being for pasta use based on the ridge-like grooves that somehow remind me of 'spaghetti strands'.2) They're very practical in that they're suitable for all typical cooking-related activities one can 'ask' of them - - namely microwave/dishwasher/freezer safe - - and of course, manual hand-washing initiatives.3) Not too much more to say about an item such as a food plate dish - - except for the addition of a 5 stars' rating it richly deserves.

I didn't have any bowls of this shape or size and I'm very happy with them. The bowls look great, but there are some speckles in the glazing on the inside of the bowls. It doesn't appear that this should make any functional difference, but it's the first thing I noticed when I opened them up. Overall, this is a nice set of bowls!

They do not nest in each other flat like most bowls, kind of odd. But nice other than that.
