My toilet was leaking from the bottom tank gasket assembly, all three plastic tabs that locked the old gasket assembly to the tank bottom had broken off.Kohler instructions say to apply dish detergent to the clean tank bottom, align the tabs on the gasket assembly to the triangular tank opening, apply pressure and turn the assembly to seal.I applied dish detergent generously to the top and underside of the tank bottom and to the gasket, pressed down hard, tried to turn, nothing.I got a rag and folded it over a few times to make a thick cushion over the gasket assembly, got some more leverage, pressed down with as much body weight as possible, and managed to turn the assembly about 1/4 turn to lock it down. I would have preferred a half turn, but it’s not going anywhere, and the gasket now seals.If you can easily curl 50 pound dumbbells installing the gasket should be no problem. For everyone else, may the Force be with you, you’ll going to need all the help you can get.Kohler should redesign the three large plastic tabs that lock down the gasket so they’re at a slight angle, this would make initially engaging the porcelain tank bottom lip a lot easier. The current gasket assembly design is not at all user friendly.Still, my toilet is fixed and it only cost around $20, and my aching arm and wrist will feel better eventually.
