Bought this item to wire up my parents garage with a motion triggered light after somebody siphoned off a whole tank of gas out of their truck, and it so far, appears to be working well. It is so sensitive it can trigger on flying nightime bugs. I am so totally impressed with its' sensitivity that I am considering buying it myself. Excellent product in my opinion.UPDATE end of May 2024 : The original unit is still working just fine and the reason for the update is to commend the manufacturer of this product for their choice of switching relay. As I stated before I set the sensitivity of this unit such that I could not stealthily crawl very slowly into the garage on hands and knees without it turning the lights on. Even up to this moment the output relay operates several dozens of times per night and it is still working great. Note I have it only turning on about a 75 watt equivalent load but I am so pleased with relay reliability I was compelled to write about it. Again, kudos to this manufacturers design. Excellent reliability.

This was insanely easy to install - with no complex wiring whatsoever (using normal, 3-wire romex). You simply put this before your lights in the circuit with the load wire clipped into each side of the relay, and then T-the neutral into the neutral spot. That's it (I attached an image of the instruction booklet which shows this perfectly). Took me a total of about 10 minutes, and I'm not a wiring expert by any stretch. Now all the lights in my garage (35'x 20') are controlled by the sensor, and it works incredibly well, is sensitive to motion, and generally meets every expectation I had.

This multi-sensor unit placed another simpler Leviton occupancy sensor that failed by turning on and off randomly. The ODC05-MDW is a complicated device but if you read the instructions you'll be fine. My application used most of the default settings. This is 120vac unit - no AC-DC converter needed. You do need a octagonal electrical housing of size 3.5" by 3.5" by 2" deep. I could not reuse the round electrical mount that my older Leviton used. I have attached the old-work octagon housing I obtained which is ready for the ODC05-MDW. I have also attached a photo of the original mount that didn't work with the ODC05-MDW (note the cover of the ODC05 is removed.I wanted a sensor that would immediate turn on in a hallway then shut off a few seconds later once I've left the area of the washer and dryer. And it does that perfectly. I'm only using the motion sensor mode, no IR (heat). The reaction time is very fast which a pause or delay from being in the area and the light being turned on. This unit works so well my next project for it will ditch the light switch.

It works better than the one that it replaced but it is a bit confusing. It is not quite as easy to set up than others.Note each occupancy sensor has different characteristics. I chose this among others in the manufacturer's catalogue because it best fit our needs in our family room - TV room,It has several filters to make it more suitable under varying ambient lit situations.I encourage you to download the instructions and read them before you buy one. If you have no trouble visualizing them, then it is a 4 or 5 star product.

I have one of these in my server barn controlling four eight foot long fluorescent fixtures ( 16 bulbs total ) - somewhat over five hundred watts of lighting. The unit works flawlessly turning on the lights as soon as the door is opened and turning them off a short time after I leave. Considering that I pay twenty one cents a kilowatt hour for power, this saves me a lot of money. I also don't have to stumble through the snow to turn the lights off when I go to bed.I'm going to get a second unit for my garage ( same lighting load ).
