I bought the Linksys MX8502 because I needed better coverage in my house. It seems to do that and all the various devices we have (computers, kindles, and printers) are able to sign on easily.Installation was another matter. You're supposed to use their app. I tried that and it failed. The app told me to try again. I did, several times with minor variations, and got the same result. I called the support phone number and it rang, and rang, and rang... I gave up and tried the chat option. I got a tech on the line in just a minute or two. I got worried when he told me to try the app again - but when it failed he told me there was another way to set it up. This was all controlled by pushing the reset button in strange ways and it worked. It took, overall, about two hours to get it done because the tech had other folks on his chat and sometimes I didn't do the strange things correctly. It was a bit of a struggle but it's working just fine.

This is my 3rd Linksys mesh router system I’ve bought. I’ve recommended them to friends and colleagues and it works BUT… it’s not perfect. Not even close. For starters, they STILL haven’t added HomeKit support for this router despite it being their latest and greatest (their older ones do) and they take FOREVER to update them.It has excellent Wi-Fi strength and speed but it’s not perfect and unless you’re lucky to be in a home that has a very well connected CAT5/6 system throughout, the routers connecting to each other wirelessly can negatively impact your Wi-Fi speed. Best to have them all wired. The setup is fairly easy however it can take a long time to setup and if you’re looking for advanced settings… look elsewhere. You have to dig deep to find any and the mobile app doesn’t allow you to get into very advanced settings some users may want.I can happily say however that the 2.4/5/6Ghz switching is excellent especially for devices that can only run on a certain band. A lot of smarthome devices can only run on 2.4 and with some other routers you may need to turn off the 5GHz band to make it work but this lets you set them up without a problem. It just knows what to do and does it for you.The app also lets you see all the connections made to your system and lets you individually monitor usage and adjust access accordingly but if you’ve made any changes to device names or icons in the app, over time it’ll either completely delete them or re-register an old device again meaning you’ll have to change its name and icon and permissions alllll over again.Overall it’s a good router and I do think I’ll continue to recommend them to others but I can’t in good conscious tell others it’s perfect. There may be something even better. But for its simplicity and performance, it’s an excellent option for those who want to just plug something in and have it just work. One thing to note: if you have multiple routers nearby like in an apartment complex for example or if you have a separate router you use for other things: this system’s signal quality just completely falls apart. It’s insane how many issues I’ve had with this router in regard to signal interference compared to other routers. It’s very sensitive. It will still work in high density signal environments but you may need more to help it boost its signal.

The thing I’ve learned about WiFi equipment is this: they all have a maximum fcc permitted coverage area. So basically all WiFi routers have the same coverage area. Knowing this helps a lot and you will get what you pay for. Most routers also do NOT have full Ethernet throughout. We have 1 gig speeds. So with less expensive Linksys mesh equipment we were not getting the full throughput from the router. This particular unit even setup in a mesh network still allows full throughput. The coverage are isn’t the best(none of them are!) so you gotta go with mesh and Ethernet backhaul to get the most out of your connection. We needed three of these in our 925 sf house to accomplish absolute full coverage. One at the end one in the middle, and one at the other end. No drops or any issues whatsoever. I even added extended the network to our home gym which is in a separate building about 30 feet away from the house(this is with buried Ethernet so still hard lined) so now we have full strength WiFi in the back yard which is nice. Download speeds from the mother unit are testing at 1 gig plus. The cheapo Linksys routers I used to extend the network in the gym give us around 100-150mbps.

My goal was to get a usable signal at all areas of my property. I have spectrum 1 gig cable service and the provided router was not cutting it. I purchased the MX8502 Atlas max 6E tri band rated at 6000 sq ft 2 routers package. These routers accomplished my goal. My house is 3000 sq feet single story on a lot that is 200 feet long 66 feet wide. My office is located in the front of the house which is 15 feet from the front of the lot. My garage is separate from the house at the very back of the lot.I did have difficulty with set up. I was unable to get a internet signal out of the modem (Hitron brand) and to the Linksys router. The set up instructions have you connect your cables then unplug power to the cable modem to reset the connection. They have you connect the internet cat5 cable from modem to Linksys before doing this restart. The trick with spectrum is you don't connect the cat 5 cable during restart of the modem. Since I had already tried many times to set this up I had to start clean. I reset the Linksys to factory spec with the reset button then left the cat 5 cable disconnected during set up until the modem had restarted. and that was it. Both Linksys and spectrum support had me convinced that I could not use this router and modem combination. I usually don't give up easy so I kept calling back till I got the right person which was a tech at spectrum.I have left my channel selection on auto and have not had any disconnection troubles.I have no 6E devices so these results are from my 2.4 and 5ghz devices. In the room that the routers are located in I get nice download speeds 650-800 mbps. At the furthest distances I still get very usable internet. I get aprox 200 mbps in my garage and office which are at the furthest ends. So far 1 month I have not had any issues to complain about. I have all the typical stuff connected plus I use internet for all my music and TV streaming. I have not had to restart the router. I like that there is a guest network option. The control panel is easy to set everything you want.

Im not an IT guy, but perhaps a "Prosumer". After upgrading my internet to Gigabit, I was looking to replace my "good enough" older Google wifi which covered my house quite well. Being limited to the neighborhood of 700 Mbps on the Google, I wanted to upgrade my wifi. Since Mesh worked fine before I figured it would work again. The MX8500 is expensive and disappointing. in my 3000sqft house, the system that claims to cover 6000sqft could barely connect nodes, and the signal degraded much more rapidly through walls. I had to put both nodes in the same room within sight of each other for them to get setup. When I moved them to the locations I wanted (20ft apart through 1 floor and 1 wall) they had a hard time getting better than a -70dBm signal. After talking to level 2 support, they said there was no way of seeing the data rate in the wireless backhaul for me to asses whether -70 was good enough. Their final recommendation was to move them closer. If I did that, I'd need the third (expensive) node. Why? This system has limited controls for the network and terrible mesh coverage. I will say if you got within 5' of the node connected to the modem, the wifi did scream. the rest of the house, not so much. What I finally did is go one step further with my network and bought UniFi gear from Ubiquiti. Amazing tech with a very robust OS to completely manage your network. Check it out, its a quantum leap in performance for a negligible increase in price.
