Da ich die Band im Vorprogramm von Meshugga 2016 erleben durfte, habe ich mir das Album bestellt. Auch auf Vinyl machen sie sehr viel Spaß und ich freue mich schon auf den nächsten Liveauftritt.

Pretty deadly album. It's definitely not the best high on fire album. De vermis mysteriis is a hard album to follow up. Still heavy as hell.

About the time of Cream and the Jimi Hendrix Experience, the phrase "power trio" started getting used. With the obvious exception of Hendrix, most of this type of music was self indulgent jamming overkill, fine for zoned out hippies, but ultimately a bore after about 10 minutes of noodling that went nowhere fast.Hendrix was a guiding light though in what separated wankers from trios that were indeed powerful, like Blue Cheer, too. The secret was simple: the band worked as a single entity, focused and cautious about overkill. Rush came along and were another band that understood the trio ensemble. With three gifted musicians, they created a sound of cohesiveness and knew when to burn and when to get back to the song. Alex Lifeson could have muddied things up with longer solos, but wisely to this day plays every note wisely in service of the whole. Even Geddy Lee, a bass player's bass player, understands teamwork, and that's why Rush remains the powerhouse they are.So fast forward to few other trios that knocked your socks off - Venom, in attitude if nothing else, Raven, a maniacal bunch if there ever was one, and the almighty Motorhead, especially up through "Iron Fist", which ended the classic line-up with Fast Eddie Clarke's departure, only to become a trio again sometime later with Phil Campbell and Mickey Dee the longest lasting band to work with the Lemster.Which brings us to High on Fire. Like their other albums, "Luminiferous" is a work of incredible strength and power that simply cannot be matched anywhere. Not that there aren't worthy threesomes out there - Behemoth, the late Immortal, Sodom - but Matt Pike, Dez Kensel, and Jeff Mraz are a force in nature of brutal power that leaves you stunned. This is music to derail trains by. It's the sound of a landslide with Pike's guitar providing a soundtrack. Each track is a standout, and one fears his speakers may violently explode before the CD ends. Not for lightweights.
