Great idea but i jumped too soon. There needs to be some upgrades like having a headphone jack on the portable mixer rather than back on the speaker. I’m also a bit disappointed in the sound. Fun to use and very portable. Needs some tweaks

First, let me give big shoutout Mackie. I've been a Mackie customer for years and and they really make great, affordable products with the musician in mind. So, this thing is like WOW. I'm not really sure where to begin. This is a serious*, solid little PA system with a ton of features, all useful for the working musician... especially your solo acts and buskers. It can handle a duo or trio quite nicely, too, I would imagine. According to other reviewers and the Youtube videos I've seen, this is confirmed. It's ready to go, right out of the box. You don't even have to plug it in as it runs on a battery that comes already charge. You probably would want fully charge it first though before using it. It's just a given.I don't need to go rough the features and specs, as that's probably what brought you this far, so I'll just get right to my own experience with it. My first impression, based on watching a lot of the video reviews is that it's kind of muddy and too reverb-y. But my opinion is that most reviewers are in such a hurry to test it out and upload a video, they haven't really taken the time to sit with it and let it marinate. If you read the manual, put in the time and tweak it to your taste, you'll find it is capable of much more volume and clarity than I'v seen demonstrated by others. The onboard effects are another thing that are underrated. Of course this isn't a Line 6 modeling amp or a Marshall stack, but what it does have is ample enoug to give you a lot of versatility during a live performance, especially if you use the looper. Speaking of which... the built in looper works great, but it does have its limitations. Though perfect for practicing, you might want to stick with whatever looper you're already using if you want to perform more complicated material or undo and redo layers.I also like the fact that you can mount this on a speaker stand or set it on the floor angled upwards like a monitor. I like the fact that it has bluetooth. One thing I don't like - the gig bag, (which I purchased - btw), is optional. I think it should be included. Several others have mentioned it and I happen to agree. If you're not ready to pull the trigger on this, yet - keep your eye on Mackie. I have a feeling their Showbox will include some exciting new features at the next NAMM show.*Well not completely serious. The manual is actually filled with humor along with solid instructions, illustrations and helpful tips. It's downloadable in PDF format and I suggest you take the time to go through it thoroughly. We old school guys always like to say say, RTFM (Read the F--- Manual). And keep it handy for reference!

I have to say I am rarely impressed by AV Tech, I've been around it for 20 years. But this little speaker actually impressed me. I bought it for our church to use in its prison Ministry. We go into the cell blocks and have a small church service. This works amazingly well for us, Power is not very easily accessible in most of the cell blocks so the battery pack is amazing. We paired it with 2 Mics and a battery powered Keyboard, we used the "Alesis Recital," and presto, we had our self a service sans power. We had to walk quite a way down the prison halls to get to the cell blocks and being able to wear the entire setup on my back was super helpful. This speaker gets impressively loud and is crystal clear. I was the acting sound guy, so I used the RJ45 cable to extend the control interface, it extends about 20 feet, this allowed me to get in front of the speakers and have control. But this could easily be done by someone in the band especially with the mic stand mount for the controller. There is a nice array of effects you have 2 effects positions for each channel, as well as compression, and EQ. It's a very nice little setup for on the go audio. There are also options to record and loop, I have not used either yet.Pros:-All In one solution-Runs on Battery (This is really a game changer for me)-Battery is easily removable ( I removed it, because I wound up checking it on a flight)-Nice control interface (Reminds me of an Aviom if you are familiar with them)-Has a Nice Backpack that can be purchased to wear it on you back.Cons:-Backpack is a little heavy when you load it with 2 mics, cables, the speaker and a stand. (it was ok for me, but I could see it being to heavy for some)-The control knobs move inclemently in clicks, and I felt like the change from click to click was a little large for my taste.

This thing is pretty awesome. I did not realize all the features it has for quick live music sets, like out on the street, when I ordered it.First off the whole thing is battery operated. This is 400W of music amp power that runs for 12 hours according to the manual. Alternatively you can plug it into a wall outlet. And it has a rechargeable battery pack, and recharges when you plug the amp into a wall outlet.Second, it's a bit heavy, but it's got one main handle on the top so it's at least easy to carry.Third, the inputs are just enough to be useful. You've got two XLR mic inputs, two 1/4" guitar inputs, and a left/right 1/4" inputs for keyboard, BT input for a backing track.Fourth, I didn't realize it has a bunch of effects capabilities. I just thought there'd be an effects loop, which there is. But it also has dual effects on each input channel. And you can have different effects for each channel. For example, on mics you can just add a bit of reverb. On guitar you can add a fuzz on one effect going into a spring reverb on the other effect. And you can adjust effect levels on each. There's also high, mid, low eq on each channel. The manual suggest going to the Mackie website to see the full features of the amp. They probably list all the effects there. For guitar folks, I'll mention they've got a fuzz, overdrive, tube amp, etc, and separate knobs for gain, compression, and volume. Did I mention it has a looper and a record to SD card function? Oh, it has those features too!I kept the adjustment panel plugged into the amp when I tested it, but you can detach it from the amp and have it connected via the included network cable. This allows you to make adjustments, without running over and crouching down to the amp.Sound quality wise, for 400w, it doesn't seem to get that loud, which may be a concern for street performances. You might want to try it to see if it can cut through if you're playing in a large room or where there's a lot of background noise. But is supposedly has an 8" woofer and a separate tweeter, with a crossover. The frequency range listed in the manual doesn't cover a full 20-20k range, but I thought it sounded perfectly fine. Good actually.I got the Showbox as an Amazon Vine tester, so I can't complain about price. But as of this writing, it costs several hundreds of dollars. Yet, I have nothing in my musical kit that compares to it. I have a Positive Grid Spark as a practice amp, but it's not really useful for much else. The Showbox, on the other hand, is many things in one: an amp, mixer, effects boxes, power, portability, and more. I'm just a music doodler, but if you're a real street/small venue performer, the Showbox is worth looking at, trying out, and listening to.

I always wanted to give a gift to a dear friend of mine, but I didn’t know what to get him. When I came across the Mackie ShowBox, I thought I had found the perfect present. My friend is a professional guitar player with a lot of passion and an extensive collection of guitars. Here's what he told me about the Mackie ShowBox:- The Mackie ShowBox is a flexible system. You can power the speaker with the built-in battery or a power cord.- The sound quality is pretty good , full, and it's likely to improve even further after the speaker has "broken in" (usually after 30 to 50 hours of use).- The mixer inputs are more than sufficient, with 6 channels available: 2 for microphones/vocals and 2 for instruments (guitar, bass, keyboard, etc.). It also has a stereo 1/4 input and 2 different effects, including chorus, delay, compressor, reverb, and overdrive.- The compressor works really well, and all the effects are pleasant.- The "Looper" function is very useful, especially in live situations.- Despite its many features, it is lightweight and relatively easy to carry around.- It offers Bluetooth and USB Type C connections, allowing you to connect a computer or phone to play backing tracks. Additionally, it has an SD card slot for direct recording to a memory card.- The built-in tuner is a handy feature for tuning guitars or bass guitars. The mixer is detachable and comes with a "Cat 5 cable" for remote control, as well as a clip to attach it to a mic stand.- The "Gain clipping" feature is very useful for keeping overload distortion under control.- While it may not be very loud, it is suitable for small spaces, small venues, bars, backyard parties, and band rehearsals. It's also easy to make adjustments on the fly, such as volume or effects adjustments.Overall, the unit is very well-designed, with many great features. It's a step ahead in Mackie's small carrying PA rigs, innovative, though some users might wish it had a little more power; 400 Watts isn't very loud, but it suffices for small settings and situations.
