Made in Japan and love that, it has a sealed section for grease so maintenance should be minimal, easy to operate. It’s far too small to break up a channel in a 4” foundation, I tried bullhead and chisel bits. Takes uncommon bits that no retailer in my city carry. Costs an insane amount compared to other similar options unless you’ll be using it professionally and frequently.

Caution, ONLY 3/4 hex shank can be used with flat notch. The use of round top shaft with hex shank with flat notch is NOT RECOMMENDED by Makita. This DEMO hammer comes with NO BITS, must order separate.

Very effective tool and I like it. The description says it has an AC/DC switch for use with alternative power source which is not true. I had to purchase an invertor to use it with my work truck. I had assumed that it would come with alligator clips to hook directly to the battery. No such luck but great tool anyway. I would have rated is as great otherwise.

I used this primarily for trenching in really rocky soil - to my surprise, a wide spade bit turned out to be much more useful than a shovel attachment. I have also loaned it to friends to do light concrete removal (with a pointed tip). In both cases, the Makita does the job well - its the right weight for a medium strength amateur (me) Vibration is less than expected. I even ran it several times with one hand (more comfortable when reaching down into a hole) and was surprised how well I did (probably not recommended!). Just loud enough that you should wear some ear (and always eye) protection. I've had good experiences with Makita and this is no exception.

I've used this hammer to chip away concrete and break things up, but the real benefit this tool provides is with digging holes in hard-packed soil to ease gardening. The "B" in the partnumber means that Bosch-style bits may be used; we use a 4.5" clay bit (Makita #751623-A). I can easily dig holes for plants, but also, with the same bit, chew away at the potholes that appear in our roadway to prepare for new asphalt. The tool is heavy--as needed for these activities. Bit changes are easily done by rotating a "keeper"--takes only a few moments. The tool comes with a sturdy case. Unfortunately the clay bit will not fit within this case. Overall, an essential tool for any handy-person. I bought a second one for my daughter, who is doing more and more gardening. She will find it to be indispensable.
