Extremely convenient to operate my camera. Happy with my purchase.

It IS a Manfrotto after all but be aware that it does not come with a 1/4" Screw 3/8" Thread Mount adapter if you are wanting to put it on some lightweight carbon fiber legs and they don’t have the larger bolt. Other than that it’s golden.

Pass. I have used three different Manfrotto ball heads. I sold my Manfrotto 496 Center Ball Head with 200PL-PRO Quick Release Plate. Each of my other heads uses the Manfrotto 200 system, the pro QR 200 is Swiss Arca compatible. These heads give me lots of confidence that equipment is secure. I thought by stepping up from the original 496 to this Q6 Swiss Arca mount I would get the next generation of industry leading Manfrotto ingenuity. I own Swiss Arca plates, smaller and lighter for lighter gear Benro and Sirui heads. I thought this would be a huge win.The big problem is that the Swiss interface has little spring vs the 1/2 priced Benro IB0. It is very hard to mount the camera with my eyes on the top of the camera. I have to loosen the screw to the exact distance of gap between open and close. I then have to close the screw to tighten. It is a standard screw. No snap in — even halfway like the Benro with the tension. If I loosened the bolt too much - I can disengage the end, possibly lose the knob and render the head as useless. Furthermore, the bubble level indicators — not visible from a top down view. I would have to elevate the head to eye level! The QR plate looks substantial, the rubber has a nice texture, the tightening screw has a very large comfortable end. The head is 3.6 ounces heavier than the other 496 or a hefty 25% add to the weight : Manfrotto 496 Center Ball Head with Q6 Arca-Type Quick Release Plate vs. the Manfrotto 496 Center Ball Head with 200PL-PRO Quick Release Plate.

This is much smaller than expected but it’s solid and has that Manfrotto feel. Fits nicely on my Manfrotto carbon monopod. Something larger would be tough to fit alongside the tripod in its carry case. If you need a larger ball this isn’t for you- and it needs a small QC plate.
