This is a great alternative to the standard snatch block. I do believe each has their use and can be valuable in a given situation. I have started migrating from the old cable winch line to synthetic, moved to synthetic shackles, and am now using this recovery ring in my basic kit. I use these as my go to when it’s appropriate. For the price and clarity of ratings this is worth the little extra $$.

You don't have to go off roading in a magazine cover ride to have fun, or get stuck, for that matter. But, if you want to get home or back to camp before dark, you need a good recovery plan and gear to get it unstuck. A winch is only one part of the unstuck equation. Used to be hard shackles, snatch blocks and multiple contact points was required. They can get the job done, but using soft shackles and a recovery ring can attach your winch and tow straps safely to vehicles, trees, rocks or other vehicles without the possibility of hard metal objects flying if a bolt or pin breaks or slips. The ring acts like a snatch block but is contained with soft shackles that, like the ring, probably have 3 or 4 times the tinsel strength of the straps.The ring is heavy and extremely well machined. The warning etched into the ring states the working load of 22,500 lbs, with a failure load of twice that. My Bronco is about 3800 pounds. My straps are rated over 12,000 pounds. A winch line leading to the ring and then to 2 anchor points divides the load .... simple math - but the ring just makes it safer, and lessens to weight of your recovery kit. You do have a recovery kit, right?
