I've been collecting microscopes to use with my students in nature school, and this one is great for our setting. The digital zoom up to 4x is a great feature, and while I would have preferred an optical zoom, the ease of use and focus makes it perfect for young kids. I was initially hesitant about using a screen outdoors, but it's actually been great for group learning because everyone can gather around and see what's on display. The microscope itself is sturdy, kid-friendly, and has great illumination with the white, warm, or black LED lights. My only complaint is that it comes with some unnecessary games and features that can be distracting. Sometimes, less is more, and as a teacher, I would prefer it without the digital extras. I did like that it was ready to use right out of the box, after inserting the micro-SD card.I've been testing out different microscopes and magnifiers, and this one holds its own against the competition. It's similar in quality to one of the other microscopes I've tried (number 4), though the larger screen does provide some extra magnification. It is the largest of my magnifiers, making it the least portable, but also least likely to get lost on the trail. It outperforms magnifying lenses (numbers 1, 2, 3, and 9) and is easier to focus than 6 or 7. 10 has the best magnification, but relies on a smartphone for viewing, making harder for kids to use independently.I've included some photos of the microscope in action, looking at a sparkle on a slice of wood, a picture of Abraham Lincoln on a $5 bill, a fern leaf tip, and a full stop at the end of a sentence. These should give you an idea of the magnification.

I purchased this to use with my 5 and 8 year old. We previously ordered a non-digitalPros:- Rechargeable (no wasteful battery replacement)- Easy to use (instructions a little wonky but not hard to figure out). We previously purchased not-digital handheld microscopes for the kids off Amazon that we could NOT figure out to save our lives. The focusing was a mystery. This was really easy to figure out. There's up and down arrows and you can move the microscope closer or farther away. Easy peasy.- Different color lights for different viewing experiences- Impressive photo quality. We were able to look at the fine hairs on a paint brush, see all of the paper fibers in a cardboard box, and see small print on books is actually a ton of tiny dots.- Lightweight and cute appearanceCons:- Probably not a con to some, but it's annoying that there are games on it. There are also games on my kid's Amazon-bought digital camera. I don't know what this obsession is with adding games onto anything electronic for kids, but I wish it didn't have games. I don't want my kids to grab this for more screen time, I want them to use it for exploring their world. They get plenty of other exposure to video/computer games, we don't need it on every single digital device we own. Since the con doesn't impact the quality of product, and since it would actually be a pro for some, I'm not taking a star off for it.Neutral- Comes with a micro SD card so you can take still photos and videos. I'm still not sure how I feel about it. I couldn't find a way to see photos taken on the actual device so now the kids are bugging me to upload them on the computer so they can see them. I'm sure there's some cool pictures in there, it's just annoying to have this extra step that isn't really necessary. We could look at things without pictures and that would be fine.

The 7-year-old girl this gift was intended for could barely keep it out of the hands of her 3-year-old brother, and with minimal adult instruction each mastered this digital magnifier's use to serve their purpose. The display is of high enough resolution and the lens' focus sharp enough to spark interest in seeing tiny things up close. Even something as mundane as an arm hair suddenly seemed interesting, and inherently interesting things like live insects can suddenly become super scary, in a good way.The ability to take pictures of these objects makes the magic, so the included SD card is crucial to the awesomeness of this toy, and really adds to its value. It's basically ready to use out of the box with just a little easy preparation by just about anyone 10 and over--up to say, 70, where it might become a challenge again. Might. Ages 2 or older could have fun with this magnifier directed or assisted by someone skilled in its use. Then when there's been enough science for the time being, look for the two AWESOME games included--ExciteBike and Arkanoid. The kids are lucky I even let them have the thing after I discovered THAT! All told a really fun yet educational gift at a great price!

This makes a fun toy for young children. The magnifier is not powerful to provide very much useful for adults but it's neat for kids to play with. Easy to use.

This is so cool! I got this for my granddaughter for her 6th birthday and she loves it! The picture quality is pretty decent, she's six, not George Lucas, it's great for its intended purpose. It's really easy to use, she knows how to upload the pictures on her tablet better than I do. Really fun unique present!
