wanted to teach my puppy to use a bell to go out to potty, but didn’t want the long string of bells because my toddler would likely take it off the door and use it as a noise maker. This bell is really cute and loud enough to hear around the house. My pup learned to use it with a few days. Since my dog is only 3 months old, I attached it to the wall next to the door with a command strip. That way it’s easy to move as she grows.

I actually use this spell on the inside of a gate. We have an outdoor gate that I wanted to know when people came in and out. This worked a little bit better than the shop bells I found on Amazon. It works great as I can tell when someone comes in and out of the gate, and also works as a little bit of a security measure as it is secured on the backside of the gate so people can’t tell it is there. We have had it for years and it held up great I bought a second one recently for our second gate.

This is the perfect bell for bell training your dog to alert you when they need to go out. I mounted it on the wall next to my door using only a screw driver. It’s solid! I had to take several steps to get my puppy used to it. When I would ring it (before taking her out) she was afraid. So I began sitting on the floor near it, I’d ring it and give her a tiny training treat repeatedly to get her used to it. Each time, she’d grab the treat and walk back a few steps. Then I started holding a treat right above the bell. She’d sniff and get close but back up. So I rang it for her and gave her the treat. I did all of this while using my choice of potty training words and “bell”, never forcing her to be closer than she was comfortable. During this time any time my husband And I took her out, we still rang the bell and used our word. Eventually sitting with her and the bell, she got close enough to tap it with her nose but not enough for noise. I’d reward but ring the bell myself and use praise words. This lead to her beginning to ring harder and once I knew she could tap it harder with no anxiety and fear, I withheld the treat until an audible sound was made. She’s now ringing the bell to go out on her own. I’ll titarate the treats and continue verbal and physical praise to keep training. Love this bell!

This bell works great!!! My Boxer puppy very quickly picked up on how to use the bell, in fact he quickly learned that ringing the bell earned him a treat. It didn't take long at all for him to associate it with going out, but I would advise anyone mounting one to put it high enough for him to use with his nose, not his body. Our puppy got very carried away with it and would body slam it for fun, so the metal holder would be bent all directions. We mounted it higher and that resolved the problem. It is so handy for him to be able to let us know when he wants to go out, even if we are not near the door. I can hear it through most of the house. At one year old, my Boxer now rings the bell and sits patiently by the door for someone to let him out, it is great. I originally bought 3 of these, 2 as gifts. My friends with dogs love their tinkle bell gifts. The bell came off of mine, and after contacting customer service, not only did Mighty Paw replace my bell, they also gave me the choice of a free gift from their store! The gift I chose was the Mighty Paw Smart Bell 2.0, basically a dog doorbell. I cannot say enough good things about this doorbell! It is mounted outside the kitchen slider, and it took about a day for my Boxer to learn how to ring the doorbell when he wanted to come in, he pushes it with his nose and it rings a doorbell inside the house! I used to feel like I needed to stay in the kitchen if it was cold out and he was outside. He loves to play outside, but the only way he let me know to come in was to paw the door. This combination of tinkle bell and doggy doorbell are the best doggy gadgets ever!!! I love them, and it is so cute to see my dog ring the bell when he wants to go out, then come running up on the deck and ring the doorbell when he wants to come in!!! They work great together and thank you Mighty Paw for the awesome customer service!

We have had this product for more more than 2 months now and use it more than 5-6 times daily. My dog was first scared of the sound and would also seem apprehensive to touch it even when we helped him ring it with his paw. He even used to get scared when he accidentally bumped on it while playing. But we kept on using it for more than a month and then he did not seem too scared when we used to use his paw to ring it. Then I slowly started leaving him near the bell and used my "training phrase" we always used before ringing the bell and to make him ring it himself. He would then try to nudge it, but very carefully as he was still scared of the sound. One day, I did not let him move away from the bell till he rang it hard. From that day, suddenly he seemed ok with it ringing it hard and nowadays he really goes at it (sometime even more than once if we are a little slow to come when it rings it once) : ). But now the issue is that he does not know that he is supposed to ring it only when he wants to go out to do "his business". So he now rings it whenever he wants to go out. He even rings it anytime someone goes out and he is allowed to follow them : ) .. But just so that he gets used to this routine, we continue to take him out everytime he rings it and gets him back home immediately when we know he just rang it to be out and not to pee or poop.I was not sure if my dog would use it and installed it using a 3M sticker to fix it to my door frame and so cannot comment on installation. But it seems pretty straight forward to install it.Pros1) Pretty loud and can be heard anywhere in my house (50-100 ft away). We even hear it 30 ft away with the TV on too.2) Looks are good and like a shiny silver metal and my log pawing it has not damaged it yet3) Seems to work for what its intended (my advice would be to stick with your routine of ringing it everytime you take your pet out)Cons1) I have attached it to my door frame. The dog uses his paw to ring it and so tends to hit it on the top. The handle attaching to the bell seems to get bend because of it and looses its curved shape and so I have to twist it back to its shape when the bell is now almost touching the floor.2) The joint where the bell attaches to the handle seems flimsy and I was worried it would break soon. But in over 2 months of use, it has not broken yet,
