I got this rice scooper because I wanted to control my rice portions. As Asians, we love our rice, but as we get older, we have to cut down—so here we are.It’s a simple plastic scooper, but it feels sturdy. I like that it has holes, which help release the rice more easily (no sticking, no struggle). We only eat Jasmine rice at home, and it works great for that. I’m pretty sure it would work fine with other types of rice too, since this is the kind commonly sold.Cleaning is super easy—I just hand wash it, though I haven’t tried putting it in the dishwasher yet. For the price, it’s definitely worth having a dedicated rice scooper, especially if you’re watching your portions. Plus, rice just looks so much nicer when it’s neatly scooped!

I’ve been shaping rice by scooping it into small glass Pyrex dishes and inverting them onto plates. Unfortunately, the bowls get hot quickly, making it uncomfortable to handle multiple portions. This handled rice mold solves that problem, keeping my fingers cool while allowing me to scoop and shape in one easy step.The bright yellow color makes it easy to spot in my kitchen gadget drawer, and I appreciate that its plastic construction won’t scratch my automatic rice cooker. However, there’s no mention of whether it’s BPA-free, which is a concern. Additionally, the manufacturer doesn’t specify if it’s dishwasher safe. I’ve been washing it by hand, but sooner or later, someone in my household will toss it in the dishwasher—so it would be helpful to have that information.This is an add-on to my previous review: The yellow rice shaper is definitely safe on the top shelf of the dishwasher, even when run on a high-heat sani-cycle. It is not necessary to wash it by hand.
