Was kind of expecting a thin piece of metal. It’s definitely not thin. You could use it to defend yourself if needed. I don’t recommend that—it’d be an unfortunate situation for both you AND your assailant. It’s very substantial. Order 10,000 of them and build yourself a bunker on par with the Bat Cave. The blank space in your studio rack will be as impressive as the spaces filled with expensive equipment.

1st off I will say the plate is built very well and much thicker steel than i imagined it would be. My only gripe is the color. Its not a standard black like the rest of my equipment. This color is a dark grey.

Rack mount plates are supposed to be flat black. This is super glossy with so much paint on it, the orange peel effect from the paint puts an actual orange to shame for texture. Going to send it back and eat the shipping cost, while I order a proper looking blank.First time I've been disappointed with monoprice products :(

So- yeah, it's just a rack blank plate, but it is something like 12 gauge steel with a heavy coating of paint. I am using this as a panel for a custom rack-mount device, and it definitely worked out. Way better than the other flimsy pieces for sale.

It's glossy instead of the usual matte black panel you find in standard rack panels. But works.
