Ordered this item for use with an older flat screen tv that only had component connections. Device is easily setup but powered separately, so you'll need to accommodate that if the older TV does not have a USB port you can utilize on it. Picture and sound quality appear to be great so I can vouch for the device to get the job done and it works well. Build quality is good and doesn't feel like it'll fall apart.

I hook this product up to my Sony Trinitron CRT and it has been an outstanding experience going back through all the nostalgic and retro content of yesteryear.Very easy product to use, plug component into the tv, plug source hdmi into the device and off you go. You may need to press the resolution button in case you don’t get a picture.Things I’ve used this device for:- watching dvd movies- connecting to windows PC and outputting in 4:3 resolution (e.g 1024x768)- allows for watching old 4:3 content on YouTube like music videos, cartoons, shows etc- play old school PC games in proper 4:3 aspect (e.g Doom, Broken Sword)- Retroarch running old arcade games perfectly on a CRT just like old times :’)Worth every dollar for my use cases. Love it!

I can now run a HDMI input into my old component input on my HD CRT Panasonic wide screen tv. I can run 1080P input and get 1080i output to run to my television . Picture looks great, so far I cant see any picture distortion or colour problem with the converter . You just have to push the scaler button till the right picture format appears on the screen .

I have been experimenting with Retro Game Emulation on PC for a couple of years now. I have been particularly obsessed with trying to find the right peripherals to pair PC's with CRT televisions for whatever look/feel I want to recreate, using the least amount of money as possible (because I feel like keeping things inexpensive when emulating is a major part of the concept. Sorta like when we went to CD/Game exchange stores in the 90's trying to find the cheapest games, VHS, or CD's).I was skeptical of this converter, because, having a little experience with A/V equipment, I know that it's usually not cheap trying to convert video formats. Or at least, you get what you pay for. I bought this knowing I was taking a 50/50 chance, and was prepared to start looking for a more expensive/vintage scan converter or video switcher to convert VGA to Component RGB.I have to say the quality of this converter is surprising. It worked out of the box after experimenting for a few minutes with the resolution button, and though it's obviously not going to be like plugging in a $600 RGB modded SEGA into a $3,000 BVM, it performs much better than what you'd probably assume by looking at it's build quality, integrated cables, and pricing.I'm using it on a SONY KV-24FS120 which is Standard Definition maximum 480i which I'm pretty sure it's using to display the image from my PC. Hard core gamers might complain of things like bleeding or lag, but for what I do, I honestly don't notice any of this, and I wouldn't care even if someone did explain to me what this thing isn't able to do as perfectly as a $4,000 setup. All in all, this converter exceeds my expectations at this price, it very well suits my needs and I'd recommend it to anyone looking to convert HD signals to CRTs, or whatever else you want to do with it.
