Initially, I struggled a bit with calibrating it, but once I got the hang of it, I found it comfortable to use. The weight is nice, making it feel sturdy in my hand, and I like the even tamp it provides every time. However, I did notice that the spring mechanism can be a bit stiff, which might take some getting used to. Occasionally, I see some lumpiness around the edges of my puck, but a quick spin of the tamper usually resolves that. One downside is that it’s not height adjustable, which could be an issue if you don’t fill your portafilter basket consistently high. I also found that using it with my palm instead of a traditional handle requires some adjustment to maintain a level tamp. Overall, I think this tamper is a great upgrade from a hand tamper, providing the consistency I need for better espresso. While it’s a bit pricey, I believe it’s worth the investment for coffee enthusiasts looking for quality. If you’re new to tampers, just be prepared for a slight learning curve!I hope you find this review helpful in making an informed decision. Your feedback is always welcome.Cheers,Straight Shooter

At first I had a bit of difficulty trying to figure out how to calibrate it, but now I use it over my regular tamper. It doesn't hurt my wrist, and I get an even tamp every time. Nice and heavy, looks good, and easy to store.

This is a much nicer tamper than the free one that comes with Breville. It's heavy and fits nicely in the palm. The tamper is spring loaded and sits on the rim of the portafilter to ensure a level tamp. One thing it doesn't do is level off the ground espresso. If you don't have level that off first, then tamping will just give an uneven tamp. The fit and finish are good and it works well. They also include a silicone disc/stand so errant grounds don't mess up your counter or the top of your breville.Very nice.

This is a great tamper when you’re getting into this rabbit hole that is espresso/coffee making. An issue I was having was knowing how far down to tamp, how hard etc. It was a variable, and variables are bad!!This tamper means I get a nice, consistent tamp every time. Push down and eventually the spring yields. Job done. The tamper itself feels weighty and well made. It even has a little metal “holder” to store it on the side when not in use. Would highly recommend this for anyone starting out on their coffee journey.
