Like the title states this magnetic dosing funnel is made with quality materials with a good fit and finish. It is offered at a great price point and is perfect for the hobbyist or professional. It is amazing how a good set of tools makes the task so much easier and enjoyable even. Adding this to my set of espresso tool box saves me from the old way of loading my portafilter which usually entailed making a mess. Additionally, the piston/closure when rotated and slowly raised provides a good disbursement of the grounds and breaking up of clumps. It also provides a pre tamp ability to level the grounds with the top of the portafilter.

This coffee dosing cup does have some potential but unfortunately it fell short of my expectations for being advertised as premium espresso accessory. The matte black anodized aluminum gives it a sleek and modern look, and the build quality feels solid and durable. The magnetic feature is a thoughtful touch, helping the dosing cup stay in place during use. However, the execution left room for improvement in a few key areas. While it fits my 51mm Delonghi portafilter as advertised, the fit is not as snug as I’d hoped. There's a slight wobble during use, which can lead to spills and uneven dosing. This issue undermines the precision that espresso enthusiasts strive for, particularly when trying to achieve consistent tamping and extraction.Another drawback is the depth of the funnel, which I found to be on the shallower side. When using finer coffee grounds, the funnel doesn't always prevent overflow, creating a bit of a mess. For an accessory at this price point, I expected a more seamless experience. Additionally, the anodized finish, while attractive, scratches easily, which is disappointing for a product designed for daily use.Overall, this cup gets points for its sturdy construction and aesthetic appeal, but its functionality needs refinement. It’s a decent option for casual espresso drinkers, but more serious users may find themselves frustrated by the lack of precision. I’d recommend it with reservations, depending on your specific needs and expectations.

I have a nice grinder that can dose into my portafilter directly. In theory. What does happen is I get fines on the handle and I spend too much time with a RDT tool to even everything out. With this I can dose into here, pop the lid on and give it a shake, The just pull the bottom and let it fall onto the filter. Gives a much more level bed and cuts down on how much I need to fiddle with it before tamping. The magnets are not very strong so be aware it can pop off if you bump it while dredging your bed.

This device works very well once you establish good habits. In my opinion, those habits should be unnecessary.Build quality is high. Clearly made of good materials with tight tolerances. However, the main gripe will be how easily the inner spire + base cover comes detached from the cup sides. It’s very easy to dose before you’re ready by accidentally bumping the cup or not ensuring the spiral thingy is positioned exactly correctly. For best results, while the cup is empty place it on a flat surface, insert the spire thingy, and wobble the side thingy until it is exactly center. It almost locks into place and it will no longer slide or wobble easily once correctly positioned. Grind directly into the cup, secure the lid making sure no ground are positioned in the spire tip. Then with an index finger on the lid and the thumb and other fingers securely holding the lower half of the cup lift and shake using various motionsDouble tap down the cup while still securing its lid on a hard surface to knock grounds off the lid’s underside.Position the cup directly over the portafilter hovering about and inch or two up. Then remove the lid. Grasp the spire and raise it slightly from the bottom of the cup and twist the spire with a slight wobbling (but like a top about to fall). You should see the ground tumble out and form a peak in the middle of the bed. Tap the portafilter once or twice and tamp. The second complains, the decision to split it cup itself into two separable rings seems unnecessary but also mostly unproblematic aside from the fact that shaking while holding on to the top half instead of the base half can the cup to fall apart mid shake. I guess it gives more options but more options for what is unclear. If you’re dosing and want to avoid spillage you should use a separate dosing funnel/ring because you’re going to get a better distribution by dosing from a slightly elevated position. The dose pours out in a figure eight where it initially tapers before spreading again so you want it to be held high enough to land in the center but not low enough (for example resting on the the portafilter) to cause a higher distribution around the edge of the portafilter. Likewise, if you go too high the distribution moves back outward and you can even miss the portafilter entirely. All in all really simplifies the distribution process with a superior extraction result, but requires an unnecessary learning curve that could be resolved by a unibody cup wall and magnets to secure the spire correctly into place. At half the cost of Weber Workshops it’s a good deal.Practice on flour or cheap coffee first to avoid unintentionally donating good coffee to Pacha Mama.

I am just starting to get into making espresso, so I am far from an expert. Also, because of so many different variables, espresso shots can vary, and I'm still not convinced that there is such a thing as a person who truly enjoys straight espresso shots. That all being said, I really like what this tool does and where it belongs in my workflow. I grind the beans right into this little dosing cup, I give them a little shake, and it magnetically attaches to my portafilter so I don't lose any grounds anywhere. The lifted the bottom up to allow for grounds to fall into the portafilter is a fun little touch. Here's the thing about this little tool, if you aren't careful, you could spill grounds everywhere and make a huge mess. While it does close up nicely, if you squeeze it too hard or don't have the bottom on correctly, it can make it rain groundsOther than that, it's a nice tool that I'm excited it part of my workflow
