I really enjoy metal fabrication. I did it professionally for a few years, and now do it primarily as a hobby. One of the lessons I learned early on is that when welding, proper surface prep is the key to good, solid, attractive welds. A few minutes spent properly and thoroughly cleaning the surfaces of the metal you plan to weld will save you loads of frustration when it comes time to weld. Flap discs are my favorite tool for this job- they do a great job of removing surface rust and mill scale, without removing too much of the base metal. The downside to flap discs is that they don't last very long, and they are usually expensive! So, when I saw this 10-pack of flap discs listed for such a good price, I had to check them out.The discs arrived quickly, and all seem to be well constructed. The advertisement for these discs labels them as flap discs, but these are not that- they are more like a scotch-brite pad glued to a rigid backing. They should work fine for light-duty metal polishing tasks, but for real corrosion or mill scale, I will stick to proper flap discs. I tested a few of these on my grinder, and they seem to spin up to speed with no balance issues. These discs should work well for surface prep before painting.Overall, I think that for the currently advertised price of just $22.99, these discs are a bit overpriced- there's better deals available online.

These are great for light surface rust and even paint removal. When using for automotive paint removal I've found that they are very good at maintaining a consistent flat feathering edge; very nice.
