I received my OrcaTorch D550 just in time to pack it with my dive gear and head out to the British Virgin Islands for 2 weeks diving. It was a great opportunity to see how this brand-new torch would stand up to the rigors of daily boat dives.I confess that I have had some awesome dive lights in the past, but from the moment I opened the box I was immediately impressed with the completeness of the kit, but especially with the build quality! It came in a sturdy case complete with 2 batteries, a charger, bolt snap, lanyard, a goodman style wrist mount and even includes a spare set of o-rings. The light uses triple o-rings to ensure watertight integrity. Although I did not use the wrist mount for this trip, I tried it on and was pleasantly surprised that it fit evan my large hands with no problem. The compact size of this 1000 lumen torch makes it the prefect light to carry on all dives. I snapped it onto a D-ring and it went everywhere my BCD went. Its sturdy aluminum construction had no problem dealing with getting banged around daily while switching tanks and the end of the day gear rinse. The D550’s light beam is perfect for most subjects, even in the day, to light up cracks, ledges, and exploring wrecks. The beam features a narrow 8-degree center spot and a wider 70-degree general reach. There are 2 intensity settings plus a strobe mode all controlled by an easy-to-use magnetic switch located on the end of the light where it is out of the way of accidentally getting turned on.The battery life was equally impressive. I used it extensively on the high setting for many of my dives (especially on the many BVI wrecks) and on sites like Painted Wall to make the colors absolutely pop in brilliance! Admittedly the batteries were new, but I had no problem exceeding the 2-hour advertised burn time. The batteries were also fairly quick to charge, but I really appreciate having the 2nd battery so that one is always ready to go.OrcaTorch did a great job with the D550. At less than $100, it met and exceeded all my expectations as an everyday carry dive light and as a great backup light for night diving. This torch is definitely “a keeper” and has earned a well-deserved place in my permanent dive kit!

Produces good strong beam, which is the key performance requirement of any good torch. The accessories included with it are useful and appreciated. Good value for money product.

So, I've had the opportunity to dive with this light in two very different types of settings. The first was off of New Providence, in the Bahama's, in 100' vis. The other was off Malibu, in 5-10' vis. This is a very solid, entry level light, that does exactly what it should do, and operates nicely. I haven't run into an issue with it yet on these five dives, with very different conditions and depths. Let's start with the item itself. The light comes in an attractive padded hardshell plastic case, with foam inserts, two batteries (18650's), a charger, spare o-rings, a hand mount, a boltsnap, and a lanyard. For my use, I attached mine to the boltsnap, and haven't run into an issue with the included batteries; charge them the night before, and the lifespan should be more than enough for your dives...even if you need the light on for the duration of the dive (as I did in Malibu, and needed for peering into reefs in the Bahama's).The beam is relatively focused, and provides a solid white light that gives true color to whatever you're trying to look at underwater. The magnetic on/off button, is the weakest part, as it's relatively easy to accidentally trigger, but it's easy enough to turn off. It cycles through full power, partial power, off, and if you hold it, it turns on a rapid strobing feature.I'm not sure what else to say, really. It behaved perfectly for my dives, both in relatively chilly (59°F) water, and warm (80°F) water, at 80' depths just as well as 20'. It's a great light, easy to use, and comes with a nice set of accessories. In it's price bracket, it's definitely worth the money.
